aMule doesn´t find sources after some time
« on: October 21, 2005, 12:01:51 AM »

When I run aMule for some time I don´t get any sources any more, even if I add files with 2000 sources.
On startup I get:
*** Server UDP socket (TCP+3) at 0.0.0.0:4695
*** TCP socket (TCP) listening on 0.0.0.0:4692

Could this be related? I´m behind a firewall and have disabled the extended UDP port.

Sounds like you're connected to a fake server.  Search the forums for some other threads discussing this, and ways to get a clean server list.

The lines from aMule's output look fine.  The UDP port mentioned is different from the one you've disabled.

No I´m connected only to the "Sonny Boy" servers. And the strange thing is that when I´ve some downloads some will start but others won´t get any sources, but when the first downloads are finished and I restart aMule the remaining ones get sources immediately. It´s just like aMule stopping to search for sources after a certain time.

Sonny Boy are well known fake RIAA servers.

The "Sonny Boy"s ARE fake servers. For an existing thread on your problem, see here.

Oh sorry I wasn´t aware of this "fake servers" thing.
Will eMule (and aMule) switch to kad only some day, so that this (and other lowid things) won´t be an issue any more?
And there was the suggestion to add only the 4 biggest "real" servers to my serverlist. If I do that I can´t download from clients on other servers. Can I just ban the "fake servers" permanently and have aMule auto-update the serverlist as usual?

You can use your ipfilter.dat or ipfilter_static.dat to filter out any fake servers you know about, but that's kind of an arms race that you're destined to lose.

Instead, you can use the server list from gruk.org to get known-good servers.  To prevent your server list from being polluted with fakes, you should disable the aMule features which update your server list from other clients and from servers.

And you can disable ed2k and keep kad-only.

Anyway, you get sources from other servers using source exchange also, even if those servers are not on your list.
