Download progress rolled back after power interruption
« on: June 22, 2006, 07:06:38 PM »

Hello,

I use aMule on my Mac-Intel about a week now. I have a problem that, after I open aMule for a period of time, if there is a power interruption and make my computer shut down unexpectedly, the progress of my aMule will be revert to its starting point.

I mean, after I boot up back into OSX, the progress was going back to 1.3% (It was 20% something before ..), the transferred rate does having my actual download, which is 65,90 MB. But my completed was 9.33 MB only .. And I have to redownload the stuff that I already downloaded again ...

Is this about the delay writing buffer or something? Is there a work around about this? I'm so tired having to wait for the download to go over and over again, and make myself feel it won't finish at all.

Thanks in advance.. aMule Rocks!

If you have frequent power outages I would *strongly* recommend buying a universal power supply (UPS). Losing some of your download progress is nothing in comparison to actually losing your hard drive, which can happen when stuff is written to your hard drive while the power goes out. I've had a power outage kill a 250gb fire wire drive of mine this way a few years ago when those drives were still quite pricey. You can get a UPS for around $40.

I agreed with you. However, I unplugged my UPS from my mac and plugged in to my router instead because I don't want to lose my WiFi connection when the power goes off. Maybe I have to find another UPS for my mac very soon ..

Anyway, It seems like the actual data write is working after I turn off aMule, because the harddisk goes busy after I turned it off. I have to wait for a period of time until I can turn off my mac. Is this confirmed?

Yes, amule buffers data in memory and has to flush those buffers when it is closed. If you have a large number of downloads (or a slow disk) that can take some time.
