Title: Problem with aMule and emule in many computers natted
Post by: linuxfever on August 05, 2006, 05:43:30 AM
Hi,

I was getting problems with aMule and emule in many computers natted. I share my internet connection with other computers. In one of this computers, there are a emule running. In my computer, there are a amule, running in a linux. When I'm alone, my amule works perfectly. But if other computer is up, my amule does not work. Connect sometimes with low id (I connect normally with high id, the firewall is ok), the downloads doesn't work and the uploads are low speed. The connection graphic show me that the number of connections is changing, sometimes there are many, sometimes none them. I was thinking that this error were because of the router, a DI-624 with wireless (the 2 computers are connected to router with wireless). The adsl link downs sometimes, but I didn't saw a relation among the route and the emule problem..

Sorry.. the version is 2.1.0, and not 2.0.1..

Thanks for help

Just check you use different ports on each machine, and don't forget to forward them on the right machine on the router

Yes, I'm using 2 different ports, and the router is forwarding ports to me (not to other pc)..

which way do you share the connection

1) you all connect to a central point (router/firewall)   -<--this is probably you-<-
2) you connect to the router/firewal & all the others connect trough you because your pc has 2 network cards & your second card feeds a network switch

if you chose point 1 then this is probably happening because as you said you all use aMule.
aMule will use port 4662 as a standard incoming port, so if you have say 4 people using amule on 4 seperate pc's the little adsl router/modem/firewall is having to do an awful lot of sorting to get this all sent to the correct pc, so it will give priority to the first pc (mac address) that was using this port (first come first served) & all others getting lower in priority.

you have a couple of options here,
first try upgrading the hardware you connect with/through(sorry to be blunt!... i mean no offence) &/or try using full featured NAT instead of SUA (single user account) this way you will be able to tell the router who is using which ports

If you chose point 2 then you might want to let each person have a username on your pc & then let then login via vnc/terminal/rdesktop/etc & have a shared folder that they can  download into

If the other users also use the standard settings they are probably eating up all the availiable bandwidth behind the router, so you will need to divide this all up between you & allowing for normal web use as well
