Well, if you are using version 2.1.0, you should first install 2.1.3, or even better, a cvs tarball.
For aMule 2.1.3, go here:
http://www.amule.org/files/download.php?file=160
For aMule-CVS, go here:
http://www.hirnriss.net/?area=cvs
For a How-To compile and lots of other information, go here:

Cheers!

but i don't understand, I installed amule with synaptic (linux ubuntu) as the newest release and i never get a message i had to upgrade like they do with other software.
how can i keep my credits?
-
Ubuntu is not always using the newest version of an application and if an application is considered less important it is common not to upgrade it.
But there is a 2.1.3-package in dapper-backports which you should install.

do not worry about credits, they are stored in the other people's computers, so they are fine., You should just keep your aMule configuration, which lives on ~/.aMule folder, so updating aMule's version will not affect that.
Regards.
