I've been using Amule 2.1.3 without any problems until it seems I downloaded on Amule a program called Xx_SuperGégé_v2.exe with shdocvw.dll. The rectangular icon on the bottom of Windows XP shows amule running, same thing when I check if the application is there in the Windows Tasks manager, the process is running at 10% processor but when I try to access the program nothing. Even if I try through ALT+TAB, the program seems to be there but nothing happens when I switch to it. I restored Windows several times to points in the past, uninstalled Amule and reinstalled it but always have the same problem. I am not convinced 100% this started to happen after running Xx_SuperGégé_v2.exe but that's the only thing I can see. I checked several times for viruses, trojans, etc, but nothing. I have no clue what's going on. Hope anybody can help. Thanks.

It should be an Virus...which Antivirus do you have?
-
avg 7.5 and prevx2.0
-
It is not recommended having two antivirus installed. They might conflict with each other. Have you run any antispyware utility?
Regards.
-
I have run Adaware and a-Squared Free. I also downloaded again amule 2.1.3 thinking the installer might be corrupted but nothing has changed. I still can't run amule. Prevx has detected 3 malware at one point but has removed them and the problems have not been solved.

A-squared Free found the following thing: trace.registry.blubster. I had a look at http://forum.emsisoft.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=2324 and nobody seems to know exactly what that malware does and if it is not a false positive. I will try again to reinstall amule to see if this is the problem.

Try spybot search and destroy, I've found to be one of the best antispyware products.
Regards.

I tried everything...Spybot, a-squared, prevx, panda and avg but I still can't run amule...a complete mystery...well I will have to live without it...no other programs seem to be affected though...

Have you tried deleting aMule's preferences and starting it again? or maybe logging into the PC with another user and starting aMule?
Regards.
-
The problem is that I can't even enter into the preferences. The program seems to be running but when I try to access it nothing happen...I can't see the amule windows anymore although everything seems to running fine when looking in Windows Tasks manager. Very strange. But thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Could you delete the preferences files?
It should be located in documents and settings/application data/amule (I'm not sure.), but a search for amule.conf will reveal you the location.

Problem solved! I deleted the amule.conf file, restarted, reinstalled amule and everything works! Thanks a lot for your advice wuischke.
