Why don't you have aMule included in Macports?
The compilation process would be much easier for us users.

It is not a decision of amule dev, but of macport maintainer. Inserting a port in macport is a decision taken by them.  ;D

A maintainer doesn't have to be necessarily a MacPorts staff member. Anyone with enough technical skills is eligible.

So a developer, for instance, would be the ideal choice. Just my two cents.

How does such a mac port work? Is it like a gentoo ebuild or an Arch PKGBUILD? (You know, we are chronically short on people with Mac knowledge... Currently we have about...zero)

err... macports can follow the standard gnu make steps... i.e configure make and install. but uses tcl scripts so you can check for and install library dependencies i guess.

should answer all your questions, wuischke

might be fun to write the portfile for amule...

isulzer is right.

obviously the maintainer(s) must also take care of bugs (that's why I thought of a developer).

@ wuischke: Yes macport is like  emerge on gentoo, but less powerful in the management of dependecies. But it does its work!

@all:
What about a little Fundraising between macuser to buy a macmini to an amuledev? So we can hope in a better support for our platform! We need to reach $599, not so much! Maybe if we look on ebay we can save a bit...

Do we have devs in the US though? Buying a Mac in Europe is a lot more expensive.

lfroen said he wanted to buy a Macboox the next month.[1] (http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=14657.msg77742#msg77742) This should solve our problem.
