Title: Share more to fewer downloaders...
Post by: Calyptratus on October 08, 2008, 03:40:23 PM
I'm running amuled and amuleweb, and I recently got a dedicated line for my amule-box.

When I turn up the up-speed, I get 30-40 clients downloading at 3.5KB each.

What I would like to know, is if there is any settings in the amule.conf  that would restrict the number of clients to, say, 5-6 ?
That way they would get higher speeds each...

Hi Calyptratus.

Adjusting the Slot allocation (http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ_aMule#What_is_slot_allocation.3F) value will probably solve your problems.

kind regards

if you can use the graphical version go to preferences and set max upload speed and slot there.
otherwise open amule.conf, search "MaxUpload=" and "SlotAllocation=" and set them with a text-editor.

wuischke told you how it works.

As minage replayed how to do so manually and also via GUI. For your slot allocation designate each at least 5kB.

For example let say your upload speed is 50kB so if you allocate 5kB you will get 10 simultaneous uploads. Depending on your upload speed you can better select what works for you but you should give at least 5kB to each users as most can download from you at that speed. Whatever bandwidth is not used will soon be given to next user or shared between the chain. At that speed it would take 20-25min to share a full chunk thus will also insure source exchange from the downloader to others.
