sometimes it takes lots of attempts to connect at all (it simply gets timeout all the time from all servers)

my network and internet seems intact and works fast outside amule

Preferences - Connections - and check the Kademlia box.
Then download the Node.Dat List.
KAD will restart and the wait is longer than you would expect  for incoming connections to start .

Good Luck

Have you dome the connection test to see if your router is forwarding properly the connections? also, doing what pakman says might help. It will do nothing for your servers connections, but it will connect to kad which, at least for me, is way more useful than the servers. Also, changing the port numbers in aMule might help (do not use the default ones).

Regards.

Try to connect without forcing the protocol obfuscation for every server.

the good servers from peerates (http://edk.peerates.net/servers.php?selectlevel=0&selectland=ALL&selectr=25&lang=0&select=1&servact=0&servref=0&servfak=1&sort=5) are being ddos attacked, use KAD.
