I wonder whether someone could give me insight into the following problem;
I have just upgraded to the latest version of amule (2.2.3), running on OSX. When I attempt to connect to a server, I instantly get this message;
Connecting to Byte-Devils (38.107.164.4 - 38.107.164.4:4661)
Connected to Byte-Devils (38.107.164.4:4661)
Lost connection to Byte-Devils (38.107.164.4:4661)
Connection lost
This is the same message for all servers. I have tried various server.met files without success.
My first thought was to simply use KAD on its own, however when I try using nodes.dat files it doesn't seem to connect properly. It goes up to about 150 or so and then falls off. As I can't connect to servers I am unable to bootstrap it, either.
I'm sure that the ports on my router are correctly configured, but I am no expert so I am left a bit baffled by this problem.
If anyone out there knows how I might fix it I'd be ever so grateful for a solution

Maybe it's your firewall: http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=15831.0

Someone posted that disabling the "check for new version at startup" helped him. Could you try that please?
-
Hi, thanks for getting back so quick. I unticked the check for new version and restarted amule. Still no server or Kad, and the following message;
Loaded 248 flag bitmaps.

I've no idea what this means but in the meantime I'll check out that wiki link about firewalls.
Many thanks people

I followed the link and adjusted the firewall settings so that they apply to the 2.2.3 version. No difference yet.
Thought this may be important;
Universal Plug and Play: UPnP Error: CUPnPControlPoint::AddPortMapping: WAN Service not detected.
?Hmm.

There's no change in firewall settings required for 2.2.3. (Except if your firewall triggers on a certain app, then you have to enable it after update again.)
What version did you have before? Was it working?
Universal Plug and Play: UPnP Error: CUPnPControlPoint::AddPortMapping: WAN Service not detected.
It works fine without UPnP too, you just have to forward the ports yourself in your router.

239 servers in server.met found
239 server all timeout?
Delete all servers and download a new list, at example from:
http://peerates.net/servers.php
http://gruk.org/server.met.gz
Ensure that you have forwarded the correct ports in your router and try to disable OSX Firewall.

Hello there, I had 2.1.x running before upgrading to 2.2.2 which was when I first encountered this problem.
239 server all timeout?
Delete all servers and download a new list, at example from:
http://peerates.net/servers.php
http://gruk.org/server.met.gz
Thanks for these, however i've tried them before and this time they still make no difference.
It seems that regardless of the server, my amule won't connect to anything.
Disabling my firewall completely also makes no difference.
I'm starting to think this could be something really simple, with stupidity on my part?

Yet this test:
move/rename this folder "~/Library/Application Support/aMule"
~ means your home (/Users/YOURLOGIN)
and start aMule
then let amule download servers list from default url
-
Hello, there is no folder named 'aMule' in Library/Application Support/
Should I create one and move some files there or something?

Hello, there is no folder named 'aMule' in Library/Application Support/

No, normally in OSX amule store preferences in ~/Library/Application Support/aMule
(~ the home of the user that launch amule, "Library" in Finder is localized in your language).
But in your case:
Loading server.met file: /Users/aMule/server.met
So it seems that the dir with preferences that I suggested you to backup and remove is /Users/aMule.
But it's strange:
Do you have an user named aMule?
Are you logged in as aMule?

Loading server.met file: /Users/aMule/server.met
it look like it
best thing for him to do is remove this account u do not need to create a new account to ran amule
amule should run on a standard account
log back in to ur standard account and use something like appcleaner to get rid of amule files and start from scrath
i had this error in the past and sometime just double click again fixes it
the setting i use are
peerates for server list dont trust gruk but that my own opinion
disabling Protocol Obfuscation for outgoing connections some reason one of the edonkey server throw a daily fit of low id because of this
and if that dosn't work try unticking use smart low id on connect and try safe connect instead
edit ditch that it dosn't work am suffering the same as the poster who create the topic
-
Hello, there is no folder or user named aMule in /Users/
Does that mean aMule is trying to load the server.met from a directory that doesn't exist?
I'm not sure what is meant by 'account' in this instance.
I tried disabling Protocol Obfuscation and smart lowid but no joy there either

PLEASE POST FULL and UNTOUCHED logs and output messages!
Summary:
You use amule 2.2.3 (official package?) on Leopard 10.5.6 on an Intel Mac (is correct?).
Indipendently from the correct port forwarding settings in your router, you should be able to connect to ed2k (low id at least) and to kad (firewalled).
At least if your provider doesn't filter your connection or your router restricts your internet access.
But if I understand correct with the older amule version all is ok, right?
Are you sure that this (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=15831.0) is not your case?
Read this (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=15901.0), too.
It seems that the protocol obfuscation can create problems.
After this,
I have just tried on Leopard server 10.5.5, just for few minutes, and after less then 5 minutes it was connected,
ed2k low id and kad firewalled, but it's ok: I haven't open/forwarded any ports, it's just a test, I even started amule from the diskimage without copy it.
I simply open DMG, start amule, let it download servers list, connect, wait: ed2k connected, download kad nodes, wait: kad connected, disconnect, exit, eject diskimage.

Loading server.met file: /Users/aMule/server.met
239 servers in server.met found
From this I assume that amule correctly open /Users/aMule/server.met
It's strange.
But you tell:
Hello, there is no folder or user named aMule in /Users/
2009-01-11 17:12:36: Loading server.met file: /Users//Library/Application Support/aMule/server.met

From this I assume that amule correctly open /Users//Library/Application Support/aMule/server.met
It should be /Users/***/Library/Application Support/aMule/server.met
*** = your login
But you tell:
Hello, there is no folder named 'aMule' in Library/Application Support/
So please if you want help, explain all the details.
Finder show some dir localized in your language (Users, Library, ...), so try from Terminal before tell that not exist.

Well - don't show any filenames or ED2K links. We don't want to know what you're downloading/sharing. Really. :)

Really sorry, I was wrong about this
Hello, there is no folder named 'aMule' in Library/Application Support/

Is this so aMule will not download any server.met from this folder?
