Title: Shorter keywords in KAD search
Post by: Jiut on April 15, 2009, 02:43:29 PM
It would be useful, if one could search by keywords not longer than one or two characters of CJK scripts. It should not be activated for Latin scripts. But in Chinese or Japanese the majority of words only have one or two characters. With the requirement to enter at least three characters it is simply impossible to search for most files with a Chinese or Japanese title unless they have an uncommon title with very long and rare words. So, for example, if you're searching for literature by 嚴復 (Yan Fu) you're completely lost in aMule. You can only hope the author you search for has three syllables in his name.

Agreed. I'll do it when I have some spare time.

Isn't it like, a limitation of the network?

No. Comments in eMule source show they're also thinking of it. However, that to really work I think both aMule and eMule must be updated and new versions have to become widely used. (Search would work immediately, but indexing has to be updated too.)

That IS a network limitation. I can talk to them, or you can. Your choice.

Whatever. I'll first assemble something reasonable and propose it to them.

That IS a network limitation.
Definitely NOT. This feature is included in eMule versions in recent years.

Partiallyt. Limited support for CJK and others is. Kad can't index 2-character ASCII keywords due to node load. But, as you were asking fo CJK, yes, that would be possible from a network perspective.
