Title: aMule 2.2.5 released
Post by: GonoszTopi on May 16, 2009, 02:30:03 PM
It came invisible, it came inaudible.
It came fast and still it was slow.
It wasn't expected ever.
It's aMule-2.2.5 - "never say never".

This version fixes some serious bugs of the previous release. You're strongly encouraged to upgrade.

Please see the Changelog (http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Changelog_2.2.5) for details.

Grab the sources or official packages at the download page (http://www.amule.org/files/files.php?cat=42) or check the forum (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=16919.0) for user contributed packages.

You can get the sources also via ed2k://|file|aMule-2.2.5.tar.bz2|4715858|F8476C92A07E5C317C63098842319E97|/

Hi all,

quoting from Changelog:

"Fixed possible security hole when previewing filenames containing single quotes"
"Fixed upload of the last part of a file"

Just a question: are SVN versions affected by the same problems?

Cheers,

They're also fixed.

They're also fixed.

And starting from what version? Is r9600 immune or not?

Thanks,

Yes. 9600 is immune, but don't use any version before 9600, they have a serious bug, which fortunately didn't affect the 2.2.x series. Any version starting from 9600 is safe.

Thanks a lot for the informations.

This is the reason why aMule team releases quite often (as Pacobell said). ;D

Thank you very much and good work!

How critical is it to upgrade? I ask because I'm using FreeBSD and the ports collection is still only up to 2.2.4 and I have problematic experiences with trying to use stuff outside the ports collection.

Is the security issue likely to be a problem if I add files manually from links, not from searches? The last part issue is bad for the network and I believe many clients will ban you if you keep sending them corrupt parts but I guess isn't quite so critical.

I guess going back down to 2.2.3 will help with the last part thing but am I right it won't help with anything else?

Forget the security issue, it's about as risky as that one (http://xkcd.com/327/).
The last part issue is only critical if you want to release something because then it will never complete. You don't send corrupt parts (the connection simply breaks), and so you won't get banned.
Still I suggest you upgrade. (Hell, Linux is getting more inflexible than Windows with that distro thingy.  ::) )

I don't understand...  ???

Well, aMule is a simple program that doesn't require install. Like eMule, dump it in a directory and be done. To a Windows user I would have said "download the zip with the 2.2.5 app and extract it to your aMule directory" and good. With Linux, people are (rightly) afraid to mess up their package manager if they simply do that. Not to talk of all the fun with varying versions of all the dynamically linked libs...

Stu,  ok... but Nil Einne uses FreeBSD and as far than I know... FreeBSD != Linux...

You're right of course. But the package manager and lib problem is the same for Linux too.

Downloaded 2.5.5 a day ago; would not open on my OSX 10.4.11. My 2.2.2 kept working, but restarted and now that has vanished. Went to official site, "0 files" for OSX, for either 2.2.4 or 2.2.5.

Will it be working soon? Can I get back my 2.2.2 somehow?

Downloaded 2.5.5 a day ago; would not open on my OSX 10.4.11.

Is it this: aMule-2.2.5-aDebug-GeoIP-OSX10.4+.dmg (http://gtoso.tor.it/pub/amule/osx/2.2.5/old/aMule-2.2.5-aDebug-GeoIP-OSX10.4+.dmg)?
It's strange: I tested it on 10.4.11 PPC and it worked fine.
Does it bounce on dock and nothing else?
Try to launch it from Terminal, so:
/Applications/aMule-2.2.5/aMule.app/Contents/MacOS/amule

However yesterday I prepared some new packages that I'm testing.
I'm going to update my post (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=13920.0).

Can you explain?

gtoso:

Thank you indeed! The link you gave downloaded like a professional application and works nicely! You are very kind. I wonder whether it's best to advise people to trash their previous version before downloading. It might or might not have been the problem. I wonder why that link isn't available at the amule site (www.aule.org --> Downloads --> MacOSX)? http://www.amule.org/files/files.php?cat=41 yields "0 files".

While I'm here, you may be interested in a little feedback. The previous update (a couple of months ago? 2.2.2) was a huge leap forward; my aMule had almost ground to a halt. However, 2.2.2 did introduce a few glitches. All but one appear to have been fixed by the 2.2.5:

*Server list: left side was chopped off, now fixed, although bumped right up against the edge of the window (no problem).

*Searches (kad): the blue progress tube at the bottom was and still doesn't appear. This is no big deal.

*Transfers: double-clicking on a transfer tube in 2.2.2 opened up the individual source tubes, but it was very hard to get it to conflate back again. This is fixed.

*Transfers: it was hard to control the scrolling up (it went sideways uncontrollably when you tried to scroll to the top). Fixed.

Very good work!

Thank you.

The merit goes to the developers and all those who contributed.
I simply tried to get that everything work fine on Mac.

PS: I updated my post with new packages.

Hi, I had trouble downloading the 2.2.5 version. When I finally got it downloaded it wouldn't decompress the dmg, saying something about the disk image being incomplete or something. Is this something from me or what? It's been a bitch getting the file to download, I keep getting an error page. Anyways, any help?
