on my macbook pro, ive disabled the firewall. on my wireless router, ive disabled its firewall. yet i cant connect to edonkeyserver2 (the server with the most files available). when i connect to another server, i always get a low id with a message explaining im likely behind a firewall or router. im sure this is not the case. suggestions anyone?

You have to forward your ports, see here (http://www.amule.org/amule/index.php?topic=15945.0).

If the firewall is turned off, there is no need to forward any port. As far as I know eDonkeyServer2 doesn't exist anymore.
You should get yourself a clean server.met file to remove the garbage, bogus, fake servers that you probably still have in there.

What about NAT ?

You mean PAT? Let's wait for his reply. :)
The router however has to be configured to forward the client ports for traffic coming from the outside.

also, good servers are very sparse ATM (only 2), eDonkeyServer2 is under heavy strain and sometimes it will be full and not accept a connection, or sometimes just not accept a obfuscation connection (to save bandwidth?).
My advice;
- If you can, try to connect to 'KAD-only', and stay connected 24/7 to build up a good map of the network.
- use high ports i.e. above 5000

Huh, I just realised that I am connected to eDonkeyServer 2 myself. I didn't notice yet, because I have 3 servers listed by their IP. :-\
To connect to eDonkeyServer 2, I used to click the server several times, until I eventually get a client ID.
