Please take a look to these releases and don't forget: feedback wanted!
I can only make simple tests on the same machines which aMule is built on.

May I ask why you still use Crypto++ 5.5.2 and not 5.6.0? is there a problem with 5.6.0?

Yes, it hasn't been ported yet (and I guess it will never be).  :D

Seems like running out of file descriptors ("Too many open files"). You should increase the maximum number of open files your system allows (but I can't tell you how to do it); and maybe tell us more about how many shared files/downloads do you have.

This should work on Leopard:
Code: [Select]
$ sudo sysctl -a | grep kern.max > /Users/$(whoami)/Desktop/sysctl.bak
$ sudo sysctl -w kern.maxfilesperproc=32768
$ sudo sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=131392
$ sudo sysctl -w kern.maxprocperuid=16384
$ sudo sysctl -w kern.maxproc=2048

The first line backup the existing configuration....

Quotation marks around the path:

Code: [Select]

Hi there,
I upgraded to build 3, which says, has GeoIP database.
Unfortunately I can't see the flags next to the user name, which used to show in 2.2.5 with GeoIP.
I use a MacBook (1,1), so it's 32 bit, with MacOS X 10.6.1.

Bye.

wxCas crashes with same error of 2.2.5!

No way to fix this? I'm going to release a new build of "aMule Core"... I'd release aMule "full-featured" if someone could fix this issue...

P.S.: The crashlog was attached to the original post I quoted.

That's a very weird crash. What's your /User/<username> folder, if I can ask? It crashes on converting your username to unicode it seems.

Following your note I carefully read my crashlog. I can't find anything useful but it's not the first time I hear about a similar error with wxFileName::GetHomeDir () on Mac OS. Could we force another dir?

It's not that. It fails for me too, and it's a more complicated problem that you may think. Someone decided that using static wxString for constant strings was a good idea, and it cascades in a problem with wxWidgets when it tries to instanciate them during the linking phase, because the static initialization of the string capabilities happens before the library is correctly initialized.

If you haven't understood any of that, congratulations. Your life is happier than mine.

I'll look into what we can do.

Twelve days after the x86 package, and still no PPC binary?  How long can it take to compile!?!?

All the eternity if it would depend on me.
You seems just a little bit assumptive whereas we are all using our spare time.
I have no PPC therefore you must wait for Universal Binary otherwise roll up your sleeves and do it by yourself.

Here we go again! I already kind of missed them.

Can I suggest you to add a FAQ here (http://wiki.amule.org/index.php/AMule)? It seems users are not smart enough to understand the difference between "compatible with" and "compiled for".

Hi.
I'm running amule 2.2.5 and now 2.2.6 under Snow Leopard and I get an annoying behaviour in that
when I search for files, if some of them have asiatic characters (kanji mainly) then they don't show up and ther is an empty filename instead. The other files found, with no asiatic characters, in latin or cyrillic (why?), display correctly.
Is it a Snow Leopard related problem ?

PS: I can double-click them to download them and open the properties dialog to erase the kanji string, then it shows correctly in the list.

Well, in the time I'm in the forums here, there were always people demanding something rudely and ignoring any prominently written text (http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=9735.0) and in some cases even multiple direct replies telling them to stop asking.
I don't know how to prevent this, tips are welcome.

Did you have the same problems with Mac OS 10.5 or 10.4?

Nope. I only get this result since I have upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I'm not sure, but Snow Leopard removed a lot of things from the default install. Maybe asian fonts have to be installed from the installation DVD?

I don't remember SL installation procedure since I alway choose the "ad hoc installation" way. AFAIR under "Language Support" only a few languages were checked by default.
Please try to install them using your install DVD.

I didn't notice before as I never had kanji among results. But now I searched for your same key and... I cannot see kanji too.
I wonder if this is either Mac OS related or wx/aMule related problem. Could it depends on missing/wrong compiling flags?

UPDATE: I guess this problem is not related to kanji only... Take a look to the screenshot: the first (missing) line of server list is the one of the "active" server which should be bolded (eDonkeyServer No2 as in the log below)

Strange indeed. The server name disappears too.

It may be that it is wx related. I can't tell. Though all other SL soft do work with kanjis (maybe not wx-SL linked)

Though I saw blank lines in search results, I don't have any blank lines in the server list, the active server is displayed correctly in bold, even after connecting to another server.
As I said, I have a MacBook 1,1 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1 GB of memory, Mac OS X 10.6.1.

Bye.

Yeah, we could use a Mac Dev.  :(
To me this looks like a wx problem. Or maybe how something is set up here in the executable, whatever. Anyway it crashes before a single line of our code is executed it appears.

According to my experience there is no more to do for now.
There is a bug running wxCas and I'm working on it (I'm not a developer so I've got to study everything I do).
I'm working also on Universal Binary but it seems those guys don't like binutils (#21588 (https://trac.macports.org/ticket/21588) and #22345 (https://trac.macports.org/ticket/22345) after upgrading to 1.8.1).

Sometimes aMule crashes every several minutes. And if you run it under terminal, you get an error like this:
Code: [Select]
open /dev/urandom operation failed with error 24
Yeah, it is because too many file descriptors for '/dev/urandom'. One of the possibility is the setting of sysctl, and you can deal with it like this:

Seems like running out of file descriptors ("Too many open files"). You should increase the maximum number of open files your system allows (but I can't tell you how to do it); and maybe tell us more about how many shared files/downloads do you have.

This should work on Leopard:
Code: [Select]
$ sudo sysctl -a | grep kern.max > /Users/$(whoami)/Desktop/sysctl.bak
$ sudo sysctl -w kern.maxfilesperproc=32768
$ sudo sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=131392
$ sudo sysctl -w kern.maxprocperuid=16384
$ sudo sysctl -w kern.maxproc=2048

The first line backup the existing configuration....

Another possibility is 'ulimit'. You may get this:
Code: [Select]
localhost:~ Elias$ ulimit -a
core file size          (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size           (kbytes, -d) 6144
file size               (blocks, -f) unlimited
max locked memory       (kbytes, -l) unlimited
max memory size         (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files                      (-n) 256
pipe size            (512 bytes, -p) 1
stack size              (kbytes, -s) 8192
cpu time               (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes              (-u) 266
virtual memory          (kbytes, -v) unlimited
localhost:~ Elias$

Hmm, the setting of 'open files' is 256, which is too small. You can add
Code: [Select]
ulimit -n 4096 into your '~/.profile' file and restart aMule. Now aMule 2.2.6 runs nearly flawless.

Hi everybody.  I used this build (aMule-2.2.6-x86-Leopard build 01 ) from october on 10.6.0 - 10.6.3 and always worked fine. Since yesterday aMule suddenly refuse to start, also after a clean install (app straight from the dmg, 'Application Support/aMule' and plist deleted). No software updates in last week.
Here the backtrace
Any idea what's wrong?

I don't have the file anymore, but my known.met still records it... here are the relevant parts:
Code: [Select]
        FileHash    : BBCFB8F8C5C81A53A7DCC47B69ED0B72
        Parts       : 2
        HashSet     : 9998EB3FD7C9235B1CA2C730325C51A0, 81518978BE094E9731D34174E84AAAA5
        Tags:
                { 0x01 FT_FILENAME, 2 TAGTYPE_STRING, "aMuleCore-2.2.6-x86-Leopard-MFb03.dmg" }
                { 0x02 FT_FILESIZE, 3 TAGTYPE_UINT32, 10850511 (10.35 MB) }
                { 0x27 FT_AICH_HASH, 2 TAGTYPE_STRING, "C5VY27SOCG7K4FOW73D3P633UGVQIZGA" }

It shows the eD2k masterhash, the hashset, the AICH hash -- you should be able to verify the file.

...

Thinking of it, I'm also able to verify it (downloaded your version):
Code: [Select]
$ alcc aMuleCore-2.2.6-x86-Leopard-MFb03.dmg
ed2k://|file|aMuleCore-2.2.6-x86-Leopard-MFb03.dmg|10850511|bbcfb8f8c5c81a53a7dcc47b69ed0b72|/

So it's the true genuine build.

(And now I do have the file again ;) )

Source Dropping was considered harmful and has been removed.

(You drop a source, next time looking for sources you find it again, you connect to it again just to find out it's useless for you, you drop it again, and so on...)

Hi folks. After a long "holiday" I'm actually trying to build a brand new more stable aMule, but there are tons of pitfalls on this way since I'm on Snow Leopard.

MacPorts (should) build against x86_64 and i386 (if universal variant is called). But I'm facing lots of error like:
Code: [Select]
ld: warning: in /opt/local/lib/xxxxx.dylib, file was built for i386 which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64)
I tried to set macports.conf to build i386 only: this makes wxMac to be correctly (?) compiled. But no way to build aMule.  :(
AFAIR aMule x86_64 was a dead point, so I have only to keep trying...

Thanks, mirko.g

I usually crash after clearing search tabs, so a more stable build would be welcome.

Welcome back, Mirko!  :D

Did you try 2.2.6 or SVN? I really suggest you take SVN.

I'm on 32bit Snow Leopard, I configured with

Code: [Select]
./configure CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/local/include" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/local/lib" --with-wx-config=/Users/snake/Downloads/wxMac-2.8.11/wx-config  --enable-optimize --with-crypto-prefix=/opt/local \
 --with-gdlib-config=/opt/local/bin/gdlib-config  --with-libiconv-prefix=/opt/local --enable-cas --enable-webserver \
 --enable-amulecmd --enable-amule-gui --enable-wxcas --enable-alc --enable-alcc --enable-amule-daemon --enable-geoip \
 --with-geoip-lib=/opt/local/lib --with-geoip-headers=/opt/local/include --enable-geoip-static --disable-debug

that went well, then I did make -j8 (as stated here: http://wiki.amule.org/index.php/HowTo_compile_on_Mac btw: that wxMac isn't needed with 2.8.11 anymore)  but that gave up with some errors, I don't know what exactly is the cause so this is all I get:

oh well, turns that's way too much for one posting here, so you will find a .txt file here: http://diskutant.bplaced.net/amuleerror.txt

this is with revision 10390 on Mac OS X 10.6.5
If you need more information please ask.

Hope you can help me out, thanks!

What informations are needed?

You are on the right way.
Always post configure output: if make fails, re-run make again and paste everythin following the first "error". This makes things easier for developers.

Rev 10400 should be fixed for that specific problem.

When posting a compilation output file like above, please use make -j1 instead of -j8 so that the error is more clear and threads don't overlap output with each other on the terminal.

The fix is just:

Code: [Select]
Index: D:/Development/aMule/amule-dev/src/PlatformSpecific.cpp
===================================================================
--- D:/Development/aMule/amule-dev/src/PlatformSpecific.cpp (revision 10399)

  #if __MAC_OS_X_VERSION_MAX_ALLOWED >= 1050

So you can edit the file and make the addition manually if you don't want to wait.

I downloaded the latest (10399) tarball changed that line, did ./configure

Code: [Select]
./configure CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/local/include" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/local/lib" --with-wx-config=/Users/snake/Downloads/wxMac-2.8.11/wx-config  --enable-optimize --with-crypto-prefix=/opt/local --with-gdlib-config=/opt/local/bin/gdlib-config  --with-libiconv-prefix=/opt/local --enable-cas --enable-webserver --enable-amulecmd --enable-amule-gui --enable-wxcas --enable-alc --enable-alcc --enable-amule-daemon --enable-geoip --with-geoip-lib=/opt/local/lib --with-geoip-headers=/opt/local/include --enable-geoip-static --disable-debug
and make -j1
but still didn't work:

Code: [Select]
PlatformSpecific.cpp:323:24: error: IOPMLib.h: No such file or directory
Maybe it would help to make a configure switch to turn this feature off altogether.

Hi guys,
I'm under Snow Leopard 64 and I have a lot of problems with this version of aMule (I know it's for 32 bit version); is there any solution to get aMule working on SL 64bit? :'(

EDIT: i launch aMule and after some time it crashes (and often i lost part of my download list).

It doesn't loose downloads for me, but I've found that clearing search tabs tends to precipitate a crash.
