Title: Problem downloading...
Post by: orbdrums on September 26, 2009, 06:04:30 AM
I have been uploading and downloading for months and I believe I inadvertently changed an advanced setting or something that is causing the download to always read 0 Kbs. I am uploading at the desired rate but for some reason when I search for a title now (even though know sources are shown) it initially displays sources but counts down to 0. I have no idea what I did. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean that the "Speed" column contains "0 KB/s" ?

when I search for a title now (even though know sources are shown) it initially displays sources but counts down to 0.
Do you mean that the "Sources" column in the "Search" section always says "0". I wonder why you find something without sources.

it initially displays sources but counts down to 0.
Where? After you start downloading it? You see possible sources and they start to vanish one by one?

Try updating your server list or switch to Kad only. See the FAQ.

To clarify things a bit, the sources show 40(10) when I search for a title. When I click on "Download" and then go to the Transfers tab the sources will start with 12 or so sources and then begin to count down until it reaches zero and then never download.

Also I update my server list whenever a client connects or when I connect to a server. I'm thinking I inadvertently changed something in the Advanced tab in preferences. I'm attaching a screenshot so that maybe someone can let me know what their Advanced setting are. Thanks again everyone.

I don't really see what could be causing this. My settings are the same, except for "Upload Queue Size" being "5000 clients".
Try adding the following server, connect to it and use the "Local Search" option for a file, add it and see if the sources start to vanish this time: 212.63.206.65:4242

Thanks for the input. Each time I try to connect to 212.63.206.65:4242 it times out.  I thought of another symptom. When I used to search I would get 300 to 320 results. Now I'm only getting 10 to 15. I don't know what the heck I did.

orbdrums, please do not post screenshots with visible file names. The only exception to this rule is when all files are verifiably free to share.

You can get a short server list by looking at the edk.peerates.net website.
IP: 85.10.193.45 / Port:4007 appears to be the most populated at this moment.

Marcell, thanks for your help. I am able to connect to that server but I'm still waiting to download. Still uploading at the desired rate but no download yet. You have been very helpful.

Hey GonoszTopi, can you shed some light on this problem instead of playing secretary. You're supposed to be the guru after all...

This seems to be a very exotic error. The easiest way would be to reinstall aMule. I don't think it's worth all the effort. ::)

Well, he's doing what any moderator is supposed to do, which is enforcing the forum rules. And mind, he could just as well have deleted your thread or banned you for breaking them.

Fake server, fake sources, congested network, wrong router/firewall settings, malicious ISP behaviour, what else?

You're supposed to be the guru after all...
No, not at all. I'm just His right hand...

True. There's a sticky thread called Forum Rules (http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=8020.0) which people usually don't read.

Easy guys. I only meant to post the advanced settings but inadvertently included part of the amule screen. My apologies. I understand the concern and respect the rules, what I don't understand is the problem that I'm having. Any help about the issue that I am having would be appreciated. You guys seem to know the rules real well, any suggestions to help with my downloading issue?

I've tried that brother. For some reason when I remove the software and reinstall it, it retains my settings in aMule. I'm new to Macs so I am probably doing something wrong. I'm frustrated.

Hey Marcell, I think we worked things out. Downloading and Uploading at nominal rates currently. Thanks for being part of the solution. I'm always looking for solution types!!
