Title: Vista - Adding [lots of] shared directories crashes system
Post by: Imogen on October 29, 2009, 04:38:42 PM
aMule V 2.2.6

O/S Vista 'Train Wreck'

I wouldn't be surprised if this was not specifically related to Vista.

24,000 files ( mostly .mp3) in my shared files directory (including directories)

When attempting to add my shared files to aMule, it crashes and 'Stops responding' - Vista speak  - however I attempt to add the directories. I have even left it running overnight, to no avail. Eventually I found a work-around which may help others.

Open a command (Dos prompt window) and in your shared-files directory, run

dir /S /B > C:/temp/shareddir.dat
 (or wherever suitable)

Edit this file to remove all of the suffixes (.mp3 or whatever other suffix may exist) - [this may not be required, perhaps someone can confirm?]

Backup of /Users/Username/AppData/Roaming/shareddir.dat to shareddir.dat.old

Copy the newly createde file to /Users/Username/AppData/Roaming/shareddir.dat

Restart aMule and leave it to hash the files.

You will probably need to 'rinse & repeat' if you add new files unless a fix is found.

Firat, what you are doing is kind of extreme. It will take quite a while to publish such a lot of files.

But you are right. aMule behaves poorly when recursively sharing large directory trees. I made some improvements in the current SVN version, but it still sucks. I'll take a look if I can speed it up.

Took out another brake in 9848, and added an hourglass cursor. You can download it from http://amule.jimdo.com/
