i tried to upgrade my system (gentoo), and discovered that i can't emerge new version of crypto++ (5.6.0) because of this line in amule ebuild
DEPEND="<...>
=dev-libs/crypto++-5.5*
<...>
is there some reason in not allowing more recent versions of this library, or just ebuild author was a moron?
-
5.6.0 is causing problems on many platforms. 5.5.2 is usually the better choice.
-
causing problems with amule, or causing problems by itself?
Because if amule itself makes no difference between 5.6* and 5.5*, it must NOT be the business of amule's ebuild to prevent me from installing some package (even unstable).
-
Is this ebuild file part of our package or does it come with gentoo?
If it comes with gentoo, complain with them. If it's part of amule, well, I doubt a moron can help you. ::)
-
of course it's part of gentoo, and of course i'm going to complain with them. i just wanted to be sure that there is no technical restrictions in amule using crypto 5.6.0, i.e. that that restriction was thought up by ebuild maintainer.

aMule compiles and works fine with 5.6.0. There aren't any such restrictions.
