Title: Which server(s) is/are best?
Post by: jazzmaniac on April 21, 2010, 07:49:19 PM
Safety issues aside ( I'm talking about legitimate servers which have been  verified ), is one server (e.g., TV Underground) any better than another (e.g., eDonkeyServerNo2)? (I don't mean to be a name-dropper and I hope it's OK to mention particular servers in this Forum, but the aforementioned servers are the ones I seem to connect with most often.)

Right, ok,

Peerates Analysis Center (http://edk.peerates.net/servers.php?selectlevel=0)

Peerates ranks each server on different merits, such as  'Indexation' and 'Sourcing'

I personally connect to servers that are: verified by Peerates, not blocked  by my IPFiter, index 100% of my files and have a low ping (close to me).

It's all personal preference.

P.S.

Kad is the future for mule based products, servers can/are slowly dieing out, make sure your hardware (routers/firewalls) are compatible when the big switch over happens. i.e. Kad only eMule.

gav616, Thanks for the lucid reply and advice for the future! Currently, I am able to connect with Kad. What (if any) "hardware" changes will be required if/when Kad becomes the norm?

Kad uses UDP, and 'some' cheap routers can't handle many packets from this protocol.
