Title: amulegui on 8 bits depth X window looks ugly
Post by: Crakem on April 22, 2010, 07:50:10 PM
Please i'm using amule long time ago and for remote connections I prefer amulegui, but can't connect from internet. So I setup Xvnc for launching amulegui with 8 bits depth (amoung another remote programs) but amulegui fonts looks ugly and pink bar rayed. Could somebody say me if it could be solved, please? (k3b and gmplayer looks well)
Thanks a lot.

Well, amule doesn't draw it's fonts - that's what GTK is for, and anyway - in 8bit color depth (256 colors?) ugliness is quite expected

What for? You will get an ugly view, but still not know why it's ugly.
I think it's a problem of the VNC server/viewer.

That's not a "problem", it's feature. 8bit colordepth is to save bandwidth, not for having pretty view. Depending on way a particular GUI element is drawn , it may be more or less ugly.

Sorry for so late reply, I didn't receive email notify :S

Thanks a lot for replies

At least we see how it looks like. But I have no clue what could be wrong here. Can you try some other apps that have more controls with text?
The GMPlayer has only the "Audio" drop-down list as far as I can see. Maybe we are not alone here...

Thanks. Could this be related to how wxWidgets sets the background color for text by default?
If I find the time I will compile a small wx application and upload it for you, so we can check that.

Isn't this the same problem with the font colors in the list ctrl that was recently fixed in SVN?

I don't think so. See how all text background have the wrong color.

So it has actually something to do with how the text on the buttons is drawn. This might be a bug or it can be avoided by using a transparent mask.
I'll look into the wx bugtracker and try some other things... maybe I can come up with something.
