Title: SPAM/viruses (presumed) in Search results?
Post by: Riot Nrrrd™ on May 11, 2010, 02:56:37 AM
I just installed aMule 2.2.6 for Mac OS X and am really happy that it works - I had no luck with aMule 2.2.2.

Now that it's working for me I just noticed something.

If I do a Global search, it doesn't matter what I enter for the string, I'm guaranteed to get back at least ~ 300 or more results back, all of which appears to be SPAM (or, presumably, quite possibly Virus/Trojan-laden crap).

For example, a search on "76ad5a4d6ratdgad76ta76" (just me typing randomly) returned 296 hits!

All of them are like

• Small big 76ad5a4d6ratdgad76ta76 .exe | Size: 8.79 MB | Sources: 5838 (5838) [7] | Type: Programs | FileID: 5C3D3B1CB469C0913E1195F6FF4CA54F
• Live show 76ad5a4d6ratdgad76ta76 .zip | Size: 8.73 MB | Sources: 3770 (3770) [13] | Type: Archives | FileID: 3AD345CE33875973962E6158A1A46A05
• Full free version 76ad5a4d6ratdgad76ta76 .exe [... " " ...]

... I'm sure you get the idea.

Obviously I can sort by Size when doing a 'real' Search to find what I'm looking for, but it's incredibly annoying to get all this SPAM crap with every search.

Any way to filter this crap out???

Your server list is out-dated and contains fake servers.
Please follow the link Kry posted. Read the topic on how to get a clean server list and connect to one of the few available ED2K servers.

Sorry it took so long to reply - thanks to both of you for the tip!  Since I wasn't able to get aMule working until 2.2.6 I am obviously a nOOb  ;D
