Title: Protocol ed2k
Post by: sevenjen on June 24, 2010, 12:55:06 PM
Hi to one and all,

I am running Mandriva 2010 Power Pack, using Dolphin file manager with Firefox 3.6.3. My version of amule that I installed from the Mandriva DVD is 2.2.6.
All are fully updated.
My concern is that attempting to use amule or tvunderground I see the following message "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (ed2k) isn't associated with any program".
There is no simple addon for Firefox 3.6.3. Older versions, yes.

I have searched  various news groups for an answer but as a newcomer found none, I now need help to progress.

Thank you,
sevenjen

In firefox right-click the ED2K link and select the option to copy the link into the clipboard, paste it into the textarea at the bottom of aMule and click the button to the right. This should add the download.
Here's a screenshot of aMule. Check the "ED2K Link:" textarea at the bottom and the "Commit" button: http://wiki.amule.org/index.php/Getting_Started#The_Download_Queue

Protocol eD2k (http://www.driversupdate.org/protocol-ed2k.htm) is associated with the eDonkey2000 network, a peer-to-peer file sharing network The purpose of this is to connect to files stored in another network. Aside from eDonkey2000, there are three other applications associated with this kind of Protocol and amule is one of them. Try opening firefox the go to  Options > Applications. You should see EDK there and  select the option  'Ask every time'.  It should work fine by then.
