Title: aMule 2.3.1 released
Post by: GonoszTopi on November 12, 2011, 08:43:23 AM
Time came and time passed by. The moment is over, became part of the past and never comes back. Nothing to notice, nothing seems to be changed. The world looks just the same. However, a little bit of information has changed, some bits flipped in the RAM of a computer. In the long term it will change the life for many people, who yet doesn't even know their life is going to be changed.

The Programmer pressed "Enter". The Computer shook itself, made some noise resembling the sound of glass breaking, switched the screen on and off, and finally presented the Prompt. The Programmer leaned back. He was satisfied. The nights, the days (mostly nights) he put in this work finally brought its fruit. The Release was done.

That said, we happily present you
aMule 2.3.1
in technicolor.

To keep up with leading innovations in information technology, we provide tarballs in .tar.xz format alongside with the usual old .tar.bz2 format. In the next decades we might completely switch to .tar.xz, if it turns out to be better for the Earth.

Added mac build.
Sometimes, amule crashes with the next message:

Quote
wxWidgets Debug Alert

./src/mac/carbon/graphics.cpp(1871): assert "status == noErr" failed in DrawText(): couldn't measure the rotated text

Any ideas?
Thanks

Hey, another priceless post from GodzFire!

It would be nice and respectful to your Mac community if you would wait to do a release until you have a working version for us ready as well.

Installed all necessary files and I got nothing but crashes. New Amule will not even load on OS 10.6.8. I don't know what the problem is, and don't have the time to mess with it. I restored the previous version and will keep it, as it works. Maybe the next release will work for me. Maybe this new version requires several different downloads (it should be one self-contained file for common sense) Anyway, can't worry about it. Even so, thanks for working on it, it works for some folks.

Registering on this forum was ridiculous in itself. I had to re-enter the proposed password about four times (four different passwords attempted) because on the form screen it does not tell you the password requirements. I must be getting old because I could not read about the first fifty of those garbled box messages. Your forum techs may find it a good idea to clarify the registration requirements. I'm an Admin a forum myself and darn near gave up on joining this one. Just have the form page of Registration state that passwords need to be 8-12 characters, must have upper and lower case letters, and at least one number. It will save prospective members 10 minutes. I'm sure I wasn't the first one to consider saying forget it, and many probably did. You've got to keep it clear, concise, and as simplistic as possible while maintaining good security. Just a little Admin to Admin advice.

Looks like your translation is buggy. Please try English, it should work. What language are you using?

You could add a little more detail on "it always shuts down". Like does it show the GUI or not, does it start and shuts down later, when you do something, or does it shut down before you could do anything, etc.

Now what? 2.3.1 doesn't work or works better?
