Title: no outgoing UDP possible - can Amule work anyway?
Post by: soon on December 23, 2011, 06:43:53 AM
My network setup allows:
- no outgoing UDP
- no incoming UDP
- no incoming TCP
- outgoing TCP possible
- webbrowser, irc, messenger, it's all working

Amule doesn't work right now. It's connected to a server but a search won't bring any results.

IF it will work, in any case, I'll get a LowID, I know that.

Are there any settings or anything I can try? Or won't Amule work under that conditions?

Kad won't work then. Extended search results from servers either.

Which will result in a LowID...

It looks like you'll be able to connect to an eDonkey server with a LowID, but not to Kad.

Fairly normal, because in these cases you use TCP to connect to a server, which is correctly configured (not blocking incoming connections on its side, that is).

Maybe you're connected to a fake server. I'd suggest you remove all servers from your list and get a fresh copy from http://peerates.net/servers.php  which only includes verified, good servers and then mark as priority servers those that return useful results. You may also want to change the port number aMule uses.

eDonkey should work, but I'd strongly suggest waterboarding your network admin until he... well, does his job?

Thanks for your very good and very detailed answer.

You were right. My server list was bad. Using your link helped. Unfortunately search results are still quite bad but at least it's working now.
