Title: Automatically take-over most popular file name
Post by: d0lby on May 10, 2004, 02:36:34 AM
How about automatically take-over most popular file name? E.g. say once every ten minutes, a thread is created that scans through all the files with over say 20 sources, and 'takes-over' the most popular file name?

This is already what's done, AFAIK, in the search window. So when you doublwclick a file, the filename added is the most popular filename that file had. Once added, IMHO, taking over every ten minutes the filename could have a file changing it's name quite a lot, since the most "popular name" will depend on the sources you have listed in that very moment.
This could lead to prblems when trying to find a file... Also, some files have very popular non-identifying filenames, such as i.e.: "This is non Knoppix 2.iso" when someone had had the filename as "Knoppix 2.iso" and it actually was "My parent's trip to Jordania.iso" which is what you probably are trying to download instead of Knoppix. I hope I made myself clear... though I'm not quite sure about it ;-P
Well, that's my opinion, personal opinion, of course. I think the imortant point is hat search already adds the file with mthe most popular filename, and that that filename can be changed whenever you like through file details.

Greetings!

Interesting... Strange because I added something the other night after searching for it, then later a I checked the file details and the most popular filename def. wasen't what was used - it was something completely different, so i canceled the download...
meh... doesn't really matter I suppose...

ah, no, you're right. It just adds the file with the first filename it gets :-(
So, chances are that the most popular filename is the most bound to be the first filename to get ;-D
The eMule way is to display n searches window the most popular filename, so that it is added to transfer list with the most popular filename as it's filename (yeah, that's redundant :-D ). I guess it sohuld be done that way.
I still think, though, that changing the filename every x seconds/minutes/hours could be very confusing. But I agree with the eMule way.
So, in the end, I think we 50% agree ;-D
Greetings.

The file name must be get from a complete source with a comment(positive or negative). if you get the most popular name of any name this can be a fake name. then the fake name will be more and more popular!!!.
amule has to ask to correct the name when a user want put a "invalid" comment!!
