Hmm...
lmule -> xmule -> amule
To be honest, I don't remember where I heard of lmule. I just showed up in the IRC channel one fateful day... The rest is (*mule) history

well...
I looked at the xmule page and could not find a valid download option...
I think by that time it was kind of closed because of some law problems from the maintainer ;)
so then search search and there it was on sf --> amule :)
and then yeah they had a webinterface so here I am ;)

Hi,
Google emule + linux because fedup with win32 + emule crashes :)
the polish

an italian linux forum, first release, I think
I tried 1.0.3 compiling manually then with the ebuild
* net-p2p/amule
Sun Oct 5 02:19:37 2003 >>> net-p2p/amule-1.0.7
Sun Nov 9 18:17:26 2003 >>> net-p2p/amule-1.1.2
Thu Nov 20 13:15:25 2003 >>> net-p2p/amule-1.1.3
Wed Nov 26 23:20:26 2003 >>> net-p2p/amule-1.2.0
Sat Dec 13 11:46:58 2003 >>> net-p2p/amule-1.2.1
got a lot of problem with release 1.0.7-1.2.0, so I used principally xmule 1.6.1 and
I switched to amule with 1.2.1
PS. in an italian linux magazine (linux pratico #15, may 2004) there's a four-pages review, I think there will be a lot of italian users now ;)

not sure... I had been when lmule, then coding at xmule, then afk for summer, and joined amule when back... but can't reme, ber how I found it.
-
I found lmule xmule and amule googling. Then asked at #debian on freenode.net and someone told me amule was "the one" xD
Then joined #amule, talked with Kry, and rapidly decided which one to use :-P
-
I found amule when the xmule dev started the flamewar against you, by that time i didnt even tried xmule, so i thought if a dev flames a project maybe a give it a try, so as soon as i got broadband i downloaded amule and here i am....
-
The first time I hear about aMule was in the http://www.lmulespana.tk/ website. In that time, i was using xmule.
-
I found it at kry's house, is that ok? :]
it's not usefull for nobody and it's small but it worked for me.... :))
-
I have been using lmule, later xmule.
Then, when lugdunum changed his client and razorback and silent-bob (r.i.p) were using the new server with the zlib-function, I always got messages in xmule: "Message from Server: your client doesn't support zlib, please upgrade"
Then xmule *was* upgraded, at least, they told so in the changelog. but I still got these messages, so I started to search for another client. Then I found amule, it worked perfectly, so laterI joined the channel and became a tester :)
-
I've long used edonkey2000 original core, and Müller's ed2k-gtk-gui with it. It worked on linux, but then I needed to get it running on SUN Solaris system. This is when I found xmule, used it for a while, and now ended up with amule.
-
First found reference to lMule on google. Then a friend mentioned that xmule was available through yum on freshrpms.net. And somehow I heard about aMule (not sure how or when), which also is available through yum on freshrpms.net.
I'm happy using aMule now, except that there is a bug with files > 2 GB. (It looks like this bug is also present on lMule and xMule on my system...)
-
Just found a link from emule page :
Here (http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=1&rm=links)
-
I heard from it at http://www.debianforum.de along with others like mldonkey and bittorrent
i was trying bittorrent but silly me couldnt figure it out (hey, you get a bit too convenient as old-bie windows user), then tried xmule and i didnt manage to install it
then i looked at the last choice, amule, and easily found a detailed howto (from source, even though i use debian, i prefer to compile small programs from source whenever possible, and resort back to packages when i run into problems)
The amazing thing was - and for this i am very glad - amule worked without a single bug message!
Only after amule worked, i had the time (or wanted) to read some more including forum things, and i think i love it already (was using emule under windows, and was very happy, prior to that i used kazaa lite and soulseekt, and it was ok)
I think other forums are the best way to hear about good P2P clients, for example without forums i would have never found out that you can use usenet to share files :)
-
i heard of it on a big Fr forum called forum.clubic.com, then got the whole story i needed on this adequate website : http://kloxpou.imingo.net/article.php3?id_article=40 " Peetoopee, le p2p sous *nix"
Now i'm giving the news about aMule in this page Peer to Peer (http://c.laloy.free.fr/howtos/securite/)
-
I found it when i searched for another edonkey client for Linux aside from mldonkey as I was quiet unsatisfied with it. (meaning: google)
-
just freshmeat :-))
-
Good to hear. Freshmeat rules! Spread the word now!
-
Once upon a time i was first using emule.
Changed to Overnet because someone said, without servers it's easier to get sources (it isn't you yust need the right servers....Razorback rocks)
Then i got Linux, because on my server windows just f*cked up.
Needed a program for Linux too, Overnet 51 core and ed2k-gtk-gui
Well that worked couple of weeks, but not really good..
Then i heard about aMule in a Forum and thought "Well, maybe i'll try it sometime...."
Two days later my Overnet died...it crashed and went to the Nirvana, taking all temp files with *gr*
That was last Tuesday short before midnight and i thought "Well, just a good time to check out aMule"
As a Linux noob it took me about 5 hours to get it installed (thanks to the #amule Channel, they helped me a lot and nobody kicked me off for my stupid question ;))
And Linux and aMule lived happily everafter (well, i hope they do ;))
-
googled it
-
Where did I find aMule ?
easy: sudo aptitude -u
and there it was, in the New Packages folder.
-
Long time Edonkey2000, then Overnet then Hybrid then eMule then several mods etc, but then discovered GNU and quickly trashed all my micro$crap and initially grabbed mlDonkey (mlNet) but I don't like it's ability to *not* queue uploads then remembered reading on ShareReactor news about lMule and followed the path to xMule then discovered aMule in Kpackage when I decided xMule was behaving badly. I am waiting for ShareDaemon, but seems that's quite some time from now, also hoping to be able to tell mac users there's something better than mlMac (which is good, but not as great as a Mule client) but the core-gui separation is nice too...
-
Had just installed linux for first time for real usage (had done few tries before but never sticked with it), and was looking for help. Ppl at #linuxhelp weren't very helpful, so since I had heard of LMule from somewhere (dunnoy really where), I went to #lmule, where I found pure_ascii, who was much more helpful than ppl at #linuxhelp. Shortly afterwards I figured LMule was missing some important features I wanted to use (column hiding, multi-selection in lists), so I submitted first few patches, after which pure_ascii gave me CVS access. What happened after that is written in history books :)
Madcat.
-
When I was moving from Windows XP to Mandrake 10.1, I asked on IRC about good ED2K clients. Ppl reccomended me either MLdonkey or aMule. I tested both and I decided to stay with aMule ^^
-
I learned about aMule a while back (via the gentoo forums) but for some reason was never able to connect to any server. I gave up, installed eMule on my other computer. Got tired of eMule (and generally having to switch to windows to find stuff) so I tried again and copied my config (not the actual files rather I switched back and forth until preferences were the same (or close to it)... Amazingly, it worked.
-
Used text client eDonkey. Wanted with GUI one.
Got xMule.
Upgraded from RedHat to Debian.
xMule crashing after 10-20 minutes.
Upgraded computer hardware. xMule still crashing.
apt-cache search mule
apt-get install amule
Works perfectly, no crashes! :o)

Hi,
searching with google..
-
A long time ago, as a linux newbie, when I asked for a emule client for linux ,somebody told me it was worth trying amule.
Then I tried to install it on RH9 and had no success, but DeltaHF and BigBob helped me. Since then I'm a proud user of amule.
Thanks to all the staff at amule that work so hard.
-
Thanks to you
-
I followed Asterix errr... Kry home from eMule.
Kakapo..... Ao-tea-roa.
-
I was looking for a linux client for donkey network on SourceForge (http://sf.net).
I got both aMule & xMule for my RH9, and after a little time I decided to use aMule without any hesitation.
-
I've been searching for a Linux ed2k program and I've stumbled upon xMule, which hasn't satisfied my needs. Eventually I've found http://www.amule.org website and I've been a happy huser of aMuler ever since. :)

Kazaa did not work under linux... I could not get gIFT going and eMule does not work under Linux.... I used eDonkey GUI for a while, was not totally happy with it (a lot of crashes)... so now I am here!
-
I was testing mldonkey for a while, but that got lots of bugs and crashes, so i've tested xmule....than aMule, first at version rc07...right now on 2.0.1 :)

I switched to Linux and needed a ed2k-client, so I did:
apt-cache search emule
and then
apt-get install amule

I found amule by reading forum on Emule... I was stuck with this soft and a Low ID.
I can't find any help and it was very complicate. I did big mistake in my own system and applications folder. I remember that Emule created 20 all the time on my applications folder.
A nightmare.
Then I discover Amule... which works straight out of the box ! Great ! No Hassle.
-
On xmule forum, when amule started;)

I viewed the stats with my eMule runned with wine and I saw some users with aMule project.
Then I searched via google and now I've founded this site.
-
After switching to Linux, I was looking for a good client. I did some searches and came across xMule first.
After a long and painful learning process (getting the right prereq packages to work with my distro), I got xMule compiled and working fine... except for occassional crashes if I left the program running for more than a couple of hours.
Then, while checking for an updated version one day, I started reading back through the announcements. Reading the rants there, I began to suspect that the xMule dev was a complete jerk.
It was actually in his flames, that I saw first mention of aMule! I thought "This guy's not very mature, so why not give this thing he hates a try..."
I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was aMule better than xMule in just about every way, but it was not a total pain in the ass to compile as xMule had been (though that could partially be due to the fact that I would have installed all pre-reqs while playing with xMule).
aMule was much more stable for me, so I never looked back.
-
I was searching for an eMule for Linux, and aMule was the closest and had a vibrant community, so aMule I chose, and I am happy.
-
I switched from w2k to Linux (cause I changed from PIII-800 to AMD-XP 1400 and youldn't belive it's slower with w2k)
I used manny years edonkey then emule so there be a need for me to have a client on my linux
I startet with Debian an after a try with mldonkey I searched for anotherone cause in my oppinion to heavy.
Found in the database lmule xmule and amule after a try, amule seems to be the best (release futures) for me.
I changed to gentoo and still on it, I like the functions, simple and very usefull for me.
P.S. Many things are not as complicated as they're done in Windows.
-
I tried few times change from WINXP to Linux....but there were always some Compatibility problems with the other WINXP-Pc's here at home...(i still have some...but i'm shure the community will help me to fix them...)
But now i decided...
I'm away from Micro$oft and their bullshice...
My Linux is MUCH more stable...
And aMule is for me the best thing i could find for Linux...i knew about it years before my change to Linux... (thx mr. google... :P )...
P.S. Many things are not as complicated as they're done in Windows.
I can only say: True! Find a good releasermod for eMule isn't always easy...and so many releasers (most) use Bad Mods...
But with aMule... No Problem... :)
-
Switching from XP to Kubuntu here. ;D
Not surprisingly, I found aMule to emule forum. ;)
Glad to join you guys! :)

Couldnt get eMule under Windows to utilize my full upload bandwidth.
I thought that Windows might not be designed to wholeheartedly support filesharing,
and that Linux might be more 'user-orientated'.
So, i looked at what applications other clients used,
and tried to find out which one could be used under Linux.
As i knew eMule, aMule seemed the most logical try.
I'm glad i tried.
