Title: downloaded part is corrupt
Post by: demiurg on June 11, 2004, 10:04:24 AM
This is actually not an aMule question, but still...

I have one download that I'm struggling to finish for weeks. What surprises me is that I keep getting "Downloaded part 45 is corrupt :" error message all the time. How comes a certain part of the file became corrupted on so many sources ?

Because maybe the person who originally started sharing the file got it hashed and corrupted afterwards, so most people have corrupted parts. Also could happen that there's someone with a great upload speed who had chunk 45 corrupted after the hash, so... same problem, since most people are or have been downloading from him.
Taking the words from deltaHF's mouth: "Life is hard" ;-)

The first scenario you are talking about is impossible - nobody can download a corrupted chunk. Right ? So, it's unclear to me how so many users received that corrupted chunk.

"The first scenario you are talking about is impossible" <- yes you can. Let aMule hash the file. Modify it but don't change the modification date. There you have a chunk that will never be completed: always corrupted.
And the same applies to any other p2p client.

My point exactly!

What you just described can surely happen, but this corrupted file can not spread, because, like you said, the download will never be completed !

So, yes, one person can mess the file in the way you described, but it's impossble for that corrupted chunk to spread to many users!

hmmm, yes, you're right. Well, for some reason, there seems some clients share non verified chunks then. It's impossible to have a file who noone has some chunks if all clients shared only verified chunks. But, indeed, there are some or I'd even say, quite a few files out there where some chunks are corrupted for everybody :-/
