Title: Error 24: too many open files
Post by: benelgiac on July 01, 2004, 05:50:27 PM
Hi everyone,

sorry if this has been already addressed in the forum, I searched but couldn't find anything.

The problem is simple: I just got amule up, it seems to download and upload but after some minutes it starts to produce this error in a dialog box
>>Unable to create '.pat.met.bak' (Error 24: too many open files)
while the console says
>>Unable to create backup of .part.met

I think the permissions are fine, amule is run from an user of the "amuleuser" group, which is the owner of the files we're talking about and the folders they're in.

Now I saw elsewhere that there's a limit to the number of files that can be open at the same time, and this limit is specified in a kernel option. The default, though, should be 1024. Now, amule is far from having 1024 open files! It just have 20-30. No other apps is running that may have open files.

If someone could suggest something that would be welcome.

Please don't tell me to recompile the kernel!!!  ;(

Ok sorry guys it was just a permission problem... I screwed up with cho etc...

I was wondering it was not an amule problem 'cause nobody was reporting such an error... and I was right.

Thanks anyway keep up with the good work
