Title: Help needed with dependencies
Post by: ives on July 21, 2004, 06:07:42 PM
Hi,
I'm  prety much a newbie with Linux, but I'm trying to install aMule-2.0.0rc5-1.i586-SuSE_9.rpm
I'm using Suse 9.1 professional
The problem I am having is that , Suse 9.1 has wxgtk-2.4.2.4-138
However, when i try to install aMule-2.0.0rc5-1.i586-SuSE_9.rpm it says that wxgtk version 2.4 is needed.
I've looked at trying to uninstall my version wxgtk-2.4.2.4-138, but it ruins so many dependencies that I don't really want to have to downgrade to this version.
Is there an easier way around this problem?

thanks in advance

Ives

Hello,DeltaHF,

There are several programs that I've installed that seem to depend on the wxgtk-2.4.2.4-138 that came with Suse 9.1 .Things like Bittorrent and a few others like several Python libraries that I had to install to get bittorrent working.
So ,are you saying the only way round this is to uninstall wxgtk-2.4.2.4-138 and install the version wxGTK-2.4.2-1.i386.rpm  that is suggested on your HOWTO document?

thanks in advance,
Ives

- Force unisntallation of the previous wx rpms
- Install out wx rpms (they are the original wx, no patches)
- If some other program was uninstalled when uninstallin the previous wx packages, install those programs again.
This are the steps ;)

there should be np using bittorrent even after uninstalling the suse wx rpm and installing ours..

btw, another bt client that doesn't require wx stuff is i.e. azureus

ives:
unsinstall wxgtk. if it claims other dependencies use it, jusrt tell it to remove it anyway.
install OUR (that's the wxgtk packages provided at http://www.amule.org downloads section) wxgtk packages. OUR packages are the original wxgtk code, compiled. no patches, no modifications. the original. Distros almost-always apply their own patches to modify the priginal source codes in some way.
if, when uninstalling wxgtk you had to unisntall some other application, install it again now that wxgtjk is installed.
I hope this made it cleared ;)
Greetings!
