Hi , im using amule 1.2.8 on suse linux 9.1 pro
everytime i run amule, it nearly instantly makes my inet connection veeeery slow, even though only iploading at 10kb/s! as soon as i clos it, everything is fine!
i have:
amd 2000+
768mb ram
suse linux 91.pro
amule 1.2.8
dsl 768/128
my settings:
max up: 10
max down=0
hard limit=800
max conn=1000
nota that also with default settings, the connection gets slow!
thx

Play a bit with hard limit and max connectons till you find something that suits your need. Also, make sure it is really aMule that's taking all the bandwoidth ;)
Greetings!

k i tried fiddling with the settings, no or only very little success! i mean its impossible that amule takes so much bandwidth when its only running with about 10kb up/down! and im sure its amule, cause once i switch it off everything runs just fine!
-
then play some more with the limits ;)
Having too much connections will dramatically decrease your network speed, so have that in maind and go trying from very low values up to the optimum.

and try 2.0 rc5 ..

You have 768/128 - which is burst speed i.e. max speed of "bulk transfer". Pay attention that it have nothing to do with latency which will be quite big in your case. Why ?
Since max upload is 10k => meaning 80kbps of data only. You are not using any type of QoS which cause control packets (SYN, FIN, ACK etc) travel thru the same queue along with data packets. While data packets tends to be big (up to MTU), control packets tends to be small (~64 bytes).
Mule doesn't care about latency (it counts bps) but web browser, ssh (and you) does - it's suddently "very slow".
Solution: either futher limit upload from mule or use some QoS with packet prioritization.
Btw: I think we should add this question to FAQ :) It's not the first time it's ascked, and answer is not quite trivial.

thx for the answers!
ok i remeber winxp having some kind of QoS scheduling thingy, but what about suse linux?

EoS I had the exact same problem, do you have a router? If so, what make/model? As well, what is the make/model of your dsl modem and what is your dsl isp?
-
im not using a router
my isp is t-online and im using the modem they provided me with...no idea what brand it is!
