Hi all,
My amule has always been slow regarding download speeds, my internet connection use to be 256 kbps download, but amule was always on the 12-13 KB/s barrier, going very rarely up to 20-22 KB/s for a short while and then going back down. RC6 raised the average to 13-14 KB/s.
I never complained before because i thought that either i was doing something wrong or had something badly configured (if anybody asks, yes, i have played may times with the 'hard limit' and 'Max Connections' figures, but to no avail) or maybe my cisco router was the one preventing amule from getting higher download speeds (maybe by not alowing so many connections), so as im no expert in linux nor in cisco, I just led it be.
But yesterday my ISP doubled my donwload speed to 512 kbps, so i went to amule and raised the 'Download Limits' (only 'DL' since my upload speed hasnt been doubled, it remains at 128 kbps unfortunately). I was convinced it wouldnt do anything since to me, my slow donwload speeds with amule, as i stated before, were due to my fault. But nothing like that. The download speed have gone up a lot, and now the average is in the range of 20-30 KB/s, and it has been downloading at a maximum of 40 as well as speeds in between 33, 35, etc...
So now I presume the slow download speeds do not come from my system or my router but *maybe* from amule, dont you think? Im not blaming no one here, just pointing out what it might be a bug.
It seems to me that it, somehow, uses just a percentage of the Download Bandwidth limit. Right now it's setup to 50 KB/s (wich is what i now get in direct downloads) but its downloading at an average of around 30 KB/s and before it was setup at 25 KB/s an had the average on 13-14.
Anyone knows were the problem might be? Any similar experiences?
Thanks for any help.

The upload speed remains the same at 128 kbps, so my connection has gone from 256/128 to 512/128.
In aMule I have the upload 'Bandwidth Limit' at 10 KB/s and the ''Slot Allocation' to 3KB/s, but I havent changed this settings since my ISP has ONLY doubled my D/L speed.

The problem has been happening since i first started with amule, long ago now. I think i made this clear in my earlier post when i say amule has always been slow.
Moreover, I know of people in my country using the same ISP and not experiencing this problems, and something like that would spread quickly among users in the forums which i visit often. I doubt it, and even if they really had blocked the ports, how comes it still works (though is slow) ??
Thanks for the replies.

Because if you block the ports then the user just changes them, but if you "block" the ports, that is, reduce the speed on those ports, then the users will be much slower in noticing.

I always thought that blocking means to block :P silly me! to obstruct, to not led nothing through, but you are saying that it means 'to slow down'? Oh man, i didnt know that one. ?(
Ok then, I'll try changing ports when you make RC7 available so i do not have to stop amule twice. I'll let you know. :]
BTW the ports to change are TCP 4662 and UDP 4672, right ?
Thanks!
