The current Mac binary linked from the Downloads page and #MacMule (http://irc://irc.freenode.net/%23MacMule) (http://download.berlios.de/amule/aMule.zip) has a bug which causes it to crash randomly.
At the moment, the only work-around is for you to build aMule yourself with patched wxMac. The HowTo guide (http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/HowTo_compile_on_Mac) has been updated with the appropriate instructions. In particular, pay attention to the section on patching wxMac.
I'm looking into the possibility of updating the binary download with the fix, but it may have to wait for 2.0.0 final.

The wxMac devs have approved the patch for this crashing bug. So, it is no longer necessary for you to patch the source yourself. However, it is still necessary for you to build aMule yourself against the CVS version of wxMac. I have update the HowTo to reflect the changes.
