Title: [Information] About 2.0.0rc9, Kademlia support and webcache
Post by: thedude0001 on February 07, 2005, 02:00:50 AM
OK, as the questions keep being asked more and more here some information:

- There will be no aMule 2.0.0-rc9, the next release is aMule 2.0.0 Final.

- aMule 2.0.0 Final will be released soon. But we stick to the policy "It's done when it's done." We will not announce exact release dates as this would only lead to two possible situations: Some goals were not reached and we have to delay the release date (the HURD syndrome) or we have to release an unfinished / buggy version (the Windows syndrome). Whoever wants to get the bleeding edge of development is free to use our daily CVS tarballs and build aMule themselves.

- Kademlia support will be done, but it will be done after the 2.0.0-final release. The primary goal at the moment is to relase a "stable" version which Linux distributors can ship with their distros.

- Webcache will not be implemented in aMule. This decision is not about implementing webcache being too complicated but it is a decision of general principle. Details can be found here: http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Webcache and here: http://www.amule-project.net/amule/thread.php?threadid=3513. This topic is not open for discussion.

No Webcache is an excellent decision. Webcache just put p2p in a bad position, making easy to RIAA/MPAA/etc to sue p2p users...
I can“t wait for a 2.0 final release. Keep the good job!
