Hi Fraenker,

Welcome.

There are  no stupid questions.  We were all beginners once.  :)

Mac OS X does have internal firewall software, but it is normally disabled unless you turned it on yourself.  To check, go to System Preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall.

Are you using the latest binary that lionel77 has provided.  See this thread (http://forum.amule.org/thread.php?threadid=5051).

If you don't get better results with that version, check the wiki (http://www.amule.org/wiki/) for ideas about what may be causing aMule to be slow (http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/AMule_is_slow).

if you are using a router you need to forward the ports that amule uses to your computer. see your routes documentation on how to do this. :)
