Title: Strange situation when I try to connect to a lot of sources.
Post by: FoxM on April 17, 2005, 04:44:16 PM
Hi. Until now, my aMule has been working perfectly. I normally use it to download files with few sources (50 - 100), but a week ago I started to download some files with more than 300 sources, and I'm having problems connecting with such sources.

The situation: Every time I connect to the network, active connections reach the limit, which for me is quite normal, since the program has to look for sources. The problem arises when ot tries to connect to one (ore more) of those files with so many sources: There are so many active connections that it's impossible to upload or download files and my whole data transfer rate becomes 0.0 KBps. After some searching time and no results, it stops and "rests" a little (about 10 minutes). During that time, the upload rate returns to normality and downloading files with less sources also returns to "normal". Then it starts again looking for connections and the loop starts again.

After reading the FAQ and analyze the possible causes of the problema, I tried reducing the upload and download limits to 1 / 3 KBps respectively, to give more bandwidth to the overhead. It did not work. I tried also reducing the Maximum sources per file and increasing the maximum active connections. That did not work either. After that my mind was not thinking clearly so I used the "damn" technique and started tweaking everything:
min and max of active connections.
min and max of sources per file.
min and max of upload and download limits.
reducing or increasing the number of files to download (from 1 file to all files)
Normally I do not left my PC turned on for more than two days, (unless downloading something very important), but I tried also with aMule running for 3 days, but did not work. My average download rate was 0.02 KBps and the average upload rate was around 1 KBps.

Until now, nothing seems to work and in the whole week I could download the superb quantity of 80 KB.

The only thing that has been giving me clues is the fact that when I stop those files with a lot of sources, aMule returns to normality and the upload and download rates also.

I do not know what else can I do.

I attach a screenshot of my preferences -> connection window. Also, my Max. new connections / 5 secs is set to 10. (Was 20, but I changed it following some advice of some of you guys... but it did not work either :P)

Thanks in advice.

I tried downloading and compiling the CVS version, but could not do it because some not declared functions in the wx headers :S.

My system is a SuSE 9.1 Professional with "Linux linux 2.6.5-7.151-default #1 Fri Mar 18 11:31:21 UTC 2005 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux", 512 Mo RAM, AthlonXP 2600+, 40 Go of HD (20 for Linux 20 for WinXP :S)

Mi connection is 128/64 Kbps ADSL with a GreatSpeed MODEM/Router everything configured to work perfectly (High ID, TCP and UDP ports open, correctly configured Firewall)

try to lower your hard limit, with only 100 sources max-ocerall the limit per file is to much

so either increase teh 100 max-connections limit or lower the hard limit from 200 to maybe 80...

see if that helps
