Title: libwx not accessible
Post by: dibdalduk on May 13, 2005, 11:04:05 PM
Hi. I've trucked through the installation steps, both manual, uninstalled, and then via Yast (directions at http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Compilation_Installation (http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Compilation_Installation))

Everything compiles fine until I try to run amule. Then I get:

amule: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk_xrc-2.6.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

So then I realized that the wx_gtk2.6 goodies are at
https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1296 (https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1296)

When I tried to install via yast, I got alot of needed files I could not find anywhere:

libwx_baseu-2.5.so.2
libwx_baseu-2.5.so.2(WXU_2.5)
libwx_gtk2u_core_2.5.so.2
libwx_gtk2u_core_2.5.so.2(WXV_2.5)

Google turns up this Suse 9.3 website that turns up all these puppies as part of wxGTK-compat-2.5.3.1-5.i586.rpm

http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/professional/wxgtk-compat.html (http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/professional/wxgtk-compat.html)

But I can't find it anywhere, and I'm not sure it's an appropriate install for 9.1.

So what do I do?

Thanks.

uninstall amule (if any) and all the wx;
then go to amule download page and search wxgtk and amule for your suse;
install the 2 rpm-s;
have fun!

bye

i feel like i've done that twice already...

something's not right. i've also set make to gmake for some reason i can't quit remember and compiles are taking forever.

i'm installing "gxWidgets2.6.0" now. hopefully that will correct it. one website seems to think that's a required pacakge, anyway.

thanks.

thats all

cheers

ps. you could post the output of:

rpm -qa | grep wx

thanks for the help; i've actually made the rather rash decision, after 20 hours spent on the command line in suse, to switch to debian. i know debian will have it's own set of problems; but what the heck, i've spent enough time trying to work this out.

it's even worse to get amule on debian than suse.. debian is very slow with releasing packages  :P

I had same problem on mdk 10.1 because i missed the --prefix=/usr for ./configure of wxwidgets-2.6.0

With this option, it worked !

please do not confuse me with facts. this is a highly emotional issue.

suse lulled me into a false sense of security, with its easy installations, recognition of all my devices, fancy KDE screen savers. But when it got down to it, I still had to know a lot more than pointing to files and installing with yast. so i might as well go with the distro that's a little more honest. suse, in short, is a like a woman in a push-up bra; great to talk to at the bar, but a dissapointment when you have to take her clothes off.

not that i've ever taken a girl home from a bar.

if i've learned anything about linux, it's this: it begins with a process of trying out several distros and ends with a devotion to one distro, a devotion that is inexplicable yet completely unshakeable via argument.

i'm still in the process of trying out different versions of linux. my ultimate goal is to someday be inured to any rational discussion on their merits. I am callously crossing Suse off my list and continuing the search for that perfect (albeit only to me) system.

Actually, if I am going to pretend to be rational, I would say that Suse was a good intermediate step, since it really was damn easy to set up, but now that I know just a little more, and have gotten over that phobic hump bred by ignorance, i want to tackle a more command-line based distro.

Did I say that? Sorry. I meant to say, Suse sucks. Debian is the only way to go.

Clearly.

I think that's true if you wait for the "official" debian package. Vollstreker's debian packages (thanks Volls) are pretty up to date. I personally prefer to compile the CVS's which teaches me a lot and also (hopefully) helps out the devs. If there's a problem, this forum provides top notch technical support from people like you Delta  :D
Cheers,
Jonathan
