Title: amuled: 30 days to download any files with 600 sources
Post by: Eight_G on May 16, 2005, 12:19:50 PM
Hi all.

I'm using amuled (compiled form last stable version: amule 2.0.0) on a debian linux box.
I'm also using iptables to block a lot of opened ports since amuled doens't allow to close tcp/udp traffic on a lot of ports that it open to external IPs.

I set 20 Kbps of upload bandwith.

Why do I need at least about 30/40 days to download ANY file with up to 500/600 sources (high availability)?

Can it depend from the blocked ports (iptables)?

Thanks.

Bepp0.

If you close ports to another sources, how do you expect to use amuled?

Obiouvsly, I closed the 4712 tcp (that should be the GUI port) and the 4080 tcp (for amuleweb access), stop, not any other port is closed. But I dont think that this was influencing the amuled performance.

However, amuled is still too slow, it *SEEMS* I'm banned from other clients and I dont know why.

Thanks for whoever can help me.

Try taking a look here: http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/AMule_is_slow

And a personal note on "high availability files":
The fact that there are lots (maybe thousands) of sources for a popular files means that a lot of people want to download this file, not that is necessarily has to be a fast download  ;) The "great new files from last weeks summer camp" usually attract a lot of leechers that don't care as much for the file as a smaller group of users who are attached to some rare file do...

Could this be another symptom of the problem with amuled and Max. Connections?  Do your statistics/graphs show you at your connection limit?

Yes, it could be an amuled bug. My connection graph doesnt show me reliable values, for example:

Download: Max 124 kB/s, Time: 25:00 mins <--- doesnt seems!
Upload: Max 29 kB/s, Time: 25:00 mins    <--- my upload limit is set to 12!
Active connections: Max 520, Time: 25:00 mins <--- Could be!

The statistics show me (I'll paste a part of them, if it could be useful I'll send you the whole statistic report):

Connection
      Average Downloadrate (Session): 22.66 kB/s
      Average Uploadrate (Session): 12.03 kB/s
Max Downloadrate Average (Session): 23.40 kB/s
      Max Downloadrate (Session): 123.16 kB/s
      Reconnects: 1
Time Since First Transfer: 3:29 hours
Connected To Server Since: 3:27 hours
      Active Connections (estimate): 193
      Max Connection Limit Reached: Never
      Average Connections (estimate): 194.798950
      Peak Connections (estimate): 209

AND THESE ARE MY AMULED PREFERENCES:

Refresh-Time of Pages
    Time in seconds (zero=disabled): 120

Statistics graphs' settings
Graph width:  pixels 500
Graph height:  pixels 149
In the graph, each pixel represents  seconds 3

aMule
Speed Limits
    Download:  kB/s 100 Upload:  kB/s  12
Bandwidth Limits
    Download:  kB/s 120  Upload:  kB/s 25
Connection Limits
Max Sources Per File:  600
Max. Connections:  500
Max. new connections / 5secs:  5

Do you see any strong thing? Do you have suggestions for me?

Thanks, Bepp0.
