Title: amule 2.0.2 - killing my internet connection
Post by: weini on June 08, 2005, 01:28:52 PM
here is the problem,

i'm starting amule, everything works fine... upload 35 kb/s (dsl 2048/384) download unlimted... ports 12000 - 15000  are forwarded (netgear router), tcp is in amule 12000 and udp 14000... i'm having a high id...

connection limit in amule 300 and 500.. max connection/s 5, all other setting untouched

no problem with up and downloading... amule is running perfect...

then after a few hours running amule, i quit amule, shut down my mac, go to sleep...

next day, im starting my mac, starting amule... PROBLEM begins... nothing happens...

no connection, everything is dead...

but the strange thing is, i can go online with firefox, browsing internet... BUT i can't use ANY programm using a port other than 80/8080, no email, no bittorrent, no amule, no internet site like xxx.com:6969 (because not using standard port 80/8080)

everthing except port 80/8080 is dead...

this is not a router problem, im having a second mac and a win2000 pc... one mac is dead, win2000 and second mac are running at the same time without any problem...

this problem occurs with my ibook and powermac G5, with 10.3.9 and 10.4.1

i can only solve this problem by deleting my network settings, and reconfiguring it...

before the connection is killed my ip is 192.168.0.2, after deleting my networksettings the ip is for example 192.168.0.5... whitout this ip change, the connection remains dead...

why is amule killing my connection??? anyone with an idea?

amule 2.0.2 or 2.0.1 makes no difference

I bet if you reboot the router the problem is gone

but does not look like a router problem, if the other two computers on the network can still connect to the net...

It is. We had exactly the same behaviour on another thread here (or was it on eMule forum? I think it was here).

why should it be a router problem?

when the router is killed, offine or having any other problem, why is it possible to go online, having azureus, ftp, mail etc. running on an other pc/mac connected to the internet via the same router?

if the router is dead, then all other macs/pcs should be dead, too... this it what i think without beeing an network specialist....

next time i try only to reboot the router... then i will see what happens...

The router might have some kind of flood protection, so the ip where you have aMule gets filtered once it's triggered. Taht's why, when you change your internal ip, you're back online.

kry, maybe you are right...

i have run amule for a few hours, closed it, and the connection was gone... same problem as mentioned...

now i have only rebooted the router, the internal ip has changed from 192.168.0.5 to 192.168.0.2... and the connection is up and running...

ok, it looks like my router is having a problem with amule...

can anyone recommend a better router? i'm having a netgear RP614V2 with actual firmware...

Hi there everybody,im kind of new to this.
If anybody can help me..it will be great!
I have two computers, one iBook with osx10.3 running amule cvs,and the other computer, windows xp,running win mx or something like that for downloading.
When i conect to amule with my mac,the other computer(pc) cannot make any download. Is amule eating all the bandwith?i use a wireless router, and i have 3M cable internet conection, connected to two computers as i said, one mac and one pc.
Why is happening this, why the mac with amule gets all the downloads, and the pc doesnt get any? it has anything to do with amule?when i was using other p2p this didnt happened.
Please,i need help,i would really apreciate it..Thank You!!

do you limit the up and downlaod to your mule? especialy when the uplod is to high, this can cause troubles...
also soem modems/routers dont like to high settings with
max-connections
and
max conn / 5secs..

maybe lower those two values a little, and then test out by increasing how much your modem can handle

Thank you for your reply!! i dont have limits..i havent limited those values..i have zero in each field..what should i do? what values should i choose??
Title: Re: amule 2.0.2 - killing my internet connection
Post by: ajdaz on July 02, 2005, 10:14:29 PM
ok,i checked again those values and here is what i have:
Bandwith limits: downloads:0kb/s,upload:0kb/s,slot allocation: 2kb/s
Line capacities: download 3kb/s,upload 3kb/s,
Max sources x file-Hard limit-300,
Connection limits-max connections-500.
I use a Belkin router less than 1 year old, actually bought in jan05,and my internet connection is cable internet of 3Megs.
Another qustion: changing the directory for temporary files, into the directory: /users/name/incomplete could make my files dissapears? In the incoming directory i have :/users/name/Shared.
Today my file that were downloading dissapeared..they werent completed yet..so where did they went? maybe coz i changed the directory for the temporary file could cause that my files disappeared?
Thank you in advance!!

ajdaz, your bandwidth limits are 0 which means "unlimited".  You should definitely put a limit, at least on upload bandwidth.  That's almost certainly causing the problem you are seeing.

You say your connection is 3Megs.  Is that for upload as well as download?  Often those speeds are different.  If your upload really is 3 Mbits/s, then that translates to 375 kbytes/s.  However, you don't want aMule using every last bit of your upload bandwidth.  So, probably set a limit of 300kB/s.  If you still have problems, then try experimenting with lower values until your problem goes away.

If it doesn't seem like the problem is caused by your upload limit, then check the Max. Connections per 5 secs in the Core Tweaks preference screen.  Reduce that to 5.  If the problem goes away, you can experiment by slowly increasing that value until you find the highest value that doesn't cause problems.

I answered your question about your disappearing downloads in your other thread.  :)

ok,my first try here is this:
changed the bandwith values: downloads-0,uploads-300.
in core tweaks,it was 20 before for max connections x5sec,and now i changed it to 5.
and..looked into statistics and tells me: TRansfer: session UL:DL Ratio(total): 5.42:1.
uploaded data:8.07MB.....total overhead :48KB,server overhead:12KB.
in downloads-total overhead 39KB,server overhead-4KB.
in Connections: average download rate: 3.44 kB/s,average upload rate: 17.65kB/s
how is possible that the upload is higher than the download rate?
im mixed now?! should i put the limit for uploads different.i have 0 limit for download in bandwith, and 300 for the upload as i said above, and 5 in max connectionx5s.
thanks again!!!!
Title: settings
Post by: dazzathedude on July 03, 2005, 12:59:41 PM
uploads 300???
if you have a 3m connection unless its a pipe or something you transfer speeds would be appx 360k/sec download and 30k/sec upload as you may have a 3m download but your upload would still be at 256k.
i would suggest you try settings something like this.

under bandwidth limits.
down-300
upload-10
slots-3

line capacities.
down-360
up-28

under core tweak
max new connections/5 secs
make it 10 (but 20 should be fine depending on router/firewall you may be using)

by looking at what you have done you still have your download as unlimited 0 and set your upload to 300 which is way above what you are capable of doing 30k max

hope this helps!

@dazzathedude

how do you want to know what his upload is?
there are ISP out there in the world which provide same amoun for up/down...

ok.here it goes..changing my limits of my bandwich,i started to download with a media of 4 kB/s..is that good? i had to wait hours in the que till to start downloading.
also my external connections r disabled.
the speed of download depends on anything else other than the values of bandwith limits?
Thank you in advance!

external connections are only for programms like amuleweb, aslong as you dont need them dont worry about it

for questions concerning speed read:
