Post by: ghibli on July 01, 2005, 11:09:57 PM
Finally figured the set up (or was it a chance) for router, airport base stations, port mapping, forwarding, all this horror. Now after port check my 4662 is opne, but the 4665, 4661, 4672 are closed... What the f...???

I rechecked all the settings.... Did same thing for every single port... what is the possible mistake?

Mac Tiger, original version, Livebox Sagem router, Airport base wireless network...

as we said in another Thread here in this mac forum...

We don't know what the prob is with amule and 10.4.1 but in fact: There is somethin' in 10.4.1 update which don't let amule run well

so your port described prob says nothin to me, where I can give tips or else...its just a firewall/router prob but I don't know your router hardware  ?( try to check higher ports ...when theyre closed stay on 4662

but remember...10.4.1 has got probs with amule!!! Since we don't know the reason for that, we're out of soluting those probs with lowid or else

That's why I downgraded to 10.4.0....for now  :(

ghibli, how are you determining that the other ports are closed?

In its default configuration, aMule uses 4662 as a TCP port, and 4665 and 4672 as UDP ports.  If you are using the testport script (http://www.amule.org/testport.php), then that is only for testing the TCP port.  There isn't a nice simple way to test if the UDP ports are properly open.  You could use tcpdump or ethereal to detect the arrival of UDP packets, but that's not simple.  ;)

You also mentioned port 4661, but I think you're confused -- that one is a port normally used by servers to receive connections from clients.  It isn't supposed to be open on your computer.

So, to sum up, I think everything is probably working fine for you.  You've got HighID, which is the most important thing.  Probably, the UDP ports are set up and working fine, too, if you did them in the same way that you did the TCP port.

I hope aMule works well for you, although there does seem to be a problem with 10.4.1 as Gomaaz mentioned.
