Title: Happy birthday aMule!
Post by: Kry on August 19, 2005, 07:09:47 AM
Yeah, this is gonna be a long post.

Today aMule project becomes 2 years old. Time does indeed go fast, much faster than I expected.

It's thank-you time.

So first for that main guys that made it all possible:
That's a short list isn't it. Now for a not-so-short one :)

This is no special order. I'm making the list up as I think of people, and the point they started working here, and adding the rest of the people from the resources I have.

Ok, I give up for now. I have been writing this for HOURS! If anyone, and I mean anyone, feels left out, my sincere apologies. Pay a visit to the thread, post your flame to me, and you'll be there very soon. I hope this post to end up on wiki for posterity, so you ALL will be there, either added by me or by some slave... uh... I mean... coworker here on the team.

Just a few more notes:

- Thanks to eMule developers. Their help was critical to this project success, and their support and friendship was just as nice as... hum... something very nice. Hi to you all, and hope to keep working with you for 2 more years! (hah, yeah, I'm THAT evil).

- Thanks to #wxwidgets on irc.freenode.net, specially to BrianHV, leio, and everyone helping and having fun around there.

- Thanks to everyone at #amule. Some names come to my mind, but I did leave enough people out already, so I will just say: Hope to keep you around for a lot of time!

- Thanks to everyone at forums, helping, asking, and reporting backtraces, bugs, anything. And of course always having fun and keeping the community feeling that makes this project special to me.

- Thanks to you, reader, for being so bored as to read this HUGE post. But I had to do something like this, and should have been done earlier.

Told ya it was going to be a long post!

And, of course, all of those thanks and more should be showered upon Kry himself.  You're a great project leader.  You put up with a lot and are only minimally hostile and murderous in return.  Not much at all would get done around here without you herding us cats.

Congratulations!

Wow, Kry, what a post! Thanks for all the nice words you found for everyone of us - and for everything YOU did for that project.
I feel the urge to tell you people what Kry did for this project - I know that this list can never be complete and I am sure I miss a lot of things that need to be mentioned, so feel free to add what you think....
He's been with aMule longer than anyone of us, and he's done an incredible amount of work on this project - I'm not even sure if anything else in his life gets as much attention as aMule does. Seriousely. He's the one who keeps everything together, the team, the code, everything. What he has done in his nightly coding sessions is awesome...and he always did all the HUGE code work, all the things no one else was capable to do. Not that I want to offend anyone, you all did a great work, but he IS the one who ported securehash, secure ident, the recent emule codebase, Kad, and a huge lot more. Each of these steps took him not only days, sometimes it took WEEKS but he did it, all for a better aMule. And he keeps the team together, probably not because he's so nice to all people  ;) but because his life is devoted to aMule.
You're an extremely cool guy too, Kry, and for the team and the project I hope to have you always around - thanks for everything, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY a M u l e!

Congratulations to you all! Team and Users!

For all in the team: you've been great, helping in this project is a great experience. I think I made a lot of friends around the world, and I still hope to meet you folks in person.

And a big thanks for Kry, who besides his coding skills, which need no comment, showed great skills in building and keeping such an incredible team of supporters, managing all the egos.

8)

A toast for our birthday!

Happy birthday aMule and a big thank you to everyone involved! :D
And a huge thank you to you Kry -- I'm sure if somebody started listing your contributions the list would not be much shorter than your initial posting...

Btw, I still don't believe that you are actually in Spain... there's no way that you are 6h ahead of me, given the times you can be found on irc... ;)

Two years... That's like an aeon and a paradigm shift in Free software time...

Congrats to everyone who has made this possible (especially Sr. Kry).  I would like to personally thank the KROKODIL for keeping things safely insane for all of us.

See y'all next aeon!

Happy Birthday amule and big thanks to everybody who contributed to the project!
And of course, thank you Tania for being patient with Kry! Without all the free time he and all the other developers and supporters spent with the project everything would not have been possible.

Congrats to the aMule community!  :baby:

While I've been mostly inactive and unkown to the community, I'm amazed at how big this project has become. Youth and strength, will and illusion, joining to make a great program. A big thumbs up to you all!

Nothing much to add, just remind Kry that he promised to pay the beers on aMule's birthday, and now he's backing off... how come you dare not to go out tonight, you maniac?? I'll get you, fool! No escape tonight! You pay, we all drink, you know how it works... Don't force me to go get you out of your basement... You have 30 minutes, you hear? Ah, little bastard!  X(

BTW, there's one thing a lot of people including me would like to know... how the HECK do you work 8 hrs/day, work some more hours for aMule, get your girlfriend happy, and still get enough time to sleep??? (yes, rumor has it that this man sleeps...)

Wow! I have been mentioned! XD

That's niiiiice. :D

When I was asked to join the team as a tester, I had absolutelly no idea what that would mean. Now I see I did the right thing by accepting the invitation. It's been don't-even-remember-how-long (forum says I joined on the 29th of april last year... so I think I joined in about sometime later) and it has been a great time. I've been able to meet very nice and very smart people just by helping in the development of an app I like!

And all I did was whine! ;)

I think we're all lucky that we've managed to meet each other around something we're happy about and that has managed to last so long. Happy birthday, aMule!

May we all be able to celebrate again next year and that I may be able to start doing some real coding job with the guide of our leaders! :P

Happy Birthday & Congratulations!

I've been with aMule for a long time yet and it's amazing how great this project is! this is a fine example of quality open source software and all the members of the team can really be proud of it!

To quote Manowar:
"One hundred thousand mules together can't be wrong! Forever carry on!"  ;)

Happy birthday aMule and big congratulation to the devs, testers and helpers who make aMule be that great. :baby:
One of the greatest point of aMule behin the huge feature set is the community which I have never seen before in inet.
Keep on ruling ;)

Happy Birthday aMule !!!

I'm still watching almost dayly how this project develops and you guys sure rock the code! Especially when taking into account that you guys don't get paid for this great work and really put so much energy into it.

I wish the whole aMule team a great time, happy development and many thanks for your awesome job!

Greetings,
Chris

It seems many people had done a great deal and aMule is better than ever. Out of the box rpm installation working flawlessly. Must try compiling on LFS too ;) My appreciation for everyone involved for bringing up this project. You efforts are really starting to show off as a working multiplatform mule with separate components.  :baby:
Now I must get my linux installation back up and kicking...
