Post by: Nori on August 20, 2005, 09:49:07 PM
Hi!
How can I write messages to amule users, from which I download? Because everytime I doubleclick on the use nothing happens..
Thanks!

You have to right-click (control-click if you have a one button mouse) on the user and then choose "Send Message".

Btw, you can right-click on pretty much any list element in amule to get a context menu -- just play around a bit... :)

EDIT:
I am starting to think that we have to do something about the right-clicking issue on the mac. This seems to come up all the time. Users expect to be able to do everything with just an ordinary click and amule violates this policy. The Apple Human Interface Guide Way (TM) is to make sure that every command that's in a context-menu can also be issued through the menu (or button or so), but given amule's design I don't think that's feasible for us.
Maybe we should include a pop-up notification or a permanent note in the preferences or something along those lines on the Mac...

Yeah, you're right of course.  I suppose aMule could have a real menu bar on the Mac, although I suspect it would be a pain in the ass to maintain it as a Mac-only feature and to keep it synchronized with aMule's context menus and the current program state.

Apple has started to implement the action menu popup (with a gear icon) in various places (e.g. the Finder) to provide a user-visible way to access the context menu.  That has different problems.

Ugh.

Thanks for your answers! But I have no right click on my mouse here.. Is there maybe any other possibility? Thank you!

So just hold down the contol key and click on the user... ;)

Yes, a real menu bar would be a pain in the ass to maintain. Plus, you would have to put a lot thought into how you want to organize the different commands in the menu bar.
Maybe an action button is not a bad idea. I totally forgot about that option because I've removed all action buttons from my interfaces since they are kinda pointless if you have an 8-button mouse... ;)
The big advantage would be that we would not have to do any menu structure design -- just let the normal context menu appear under the action button if it is pressed.
