What I was wondering is if it was possible to share credits, userhash and everything else between, say, the Linux and Windows version, or even with eMule. There are some things which are obviously not possible (e.g., file paths), although it would be nice to have a way to deal with this too (to reduce amount of re-hashing ...)
Any ideas?

good luck :)

I do that (I share my cryptkey.dat and preferences.dat files) between WinXP, Fedora Core 4, and Solaris 10. All three are happy. Obviously, linux and solaris use amule, but windows uses an emule mod. No problems at all. Only rehashing on startup, but AFAIK there is no workaround for that.
Regards.

OK, but if I use aMule on more than one PC or I upgrade aMule to a newer version, is there a way to keep my userhash? Or I have to start from 0 credit again?
-
As long as you keep the needed files (cryptkey.dat and preferences.dat, see above) you don't have to start by 0.
I wont recommend using one userhash on various pc's, you'll be banned, at least by emule.
BTW: 'Cause the credits are safed in the clients.met of the client your uploading to it is not the important to keep the hash. You'll have a lots of credits, but if you don't 'meet' the other client again you don't need 'em.
After around 2 days with a new hash you wont notice a difference. (Exception: you're downloading a rare file)
But if you don't change your hash sometimes you are trackable even with dynamic ip. I don't wanna cause panic, but the risk to be tracked exists and it's better to avoid that.
-
trackable?! they track you always by your IP, and tehn send a mail to the ISP of yours...
they dont care about your userhash
-
My IP changes after 24h, this way 'they' cannot track (ger: im Sinne von verfolgen) me over months. But if someone is interesseted in the things I do and wants to do a nice listing he could do this if he tracks my userhash and logs my IP. This way the risk of a wrong saved IP decreases, 'cause you could save multiple IPs and assign it to one user.
Atm it may be theoratical crap, but if people get money for logging (e.g. Logistep from switzerland) they'll use every chance that offers to them.

they track by files not by users...
so they log who downloads/uploads to THEIR client file x/y and log the IPand Timestap,
then they send a mail to the ISP and voila they gotach ;)
pretty simple and effective

How is the userhash calculated? Why should it be reissued on new computers?
Is there a way to know when you get banned?
-
the userhash gets created at amule start if there is no cryptkey.dat and preferences.dat its a unique key.
so there are never 2 userhash out there, except when you share them ;)
and who should ban you? if you cannot connect to the server, you are banned, if this does not happen you are not banned...pretty simple to find out
