I've re-installed from 5 different sourceforge files of the RPM and the BerliOS version from this (http://www.amule.org/files/download.php?file=133) url. Does anybody have any idea what's wrong?

You've Ubuntu, not Suse 9.1 ;)
If you have Ubuntu 5.10 simply add the multiverse and universe repositories (see any Ubuntu wiki for help) and there are packages for aMule 2.0.3 and wxGTK 2.6.1 to be installed with Synaptic/apt-get.

I should have thought that using SuSE binaries + alien might not work...

After doing that aMule works perfectly, thanks.
