Post by: twinkerzzz on December 24, 2005, 03:14:51 PM
hi i'm downloading a file
I notice the upload box is only active when others are
uploading from the file i am downloading.
So how can i tell how much total upload there has been per file download ?

Merry Christmas!

Take a look at the shared files, there's the column 'transferred data', where you'll see how much upload per file has occured.

okay.....
so it says ive transfered/uploaded 55MB for a file of which i've only downloaded 14 mb over 12 hours.
so at this rate i'm going to use all my monthly gig allowance  on uploading.

Is there a setting that can make the proportion a bit more proportionally equal ?

tnx

The only way to limit the uploading is to set the bandwidth limits in the options menu. Set it to a lower value such as 5 kBps. However.... there is always the downside that you will also limit your downloads because you will not climb up the queues as fast as before. The mules use a credit system which will only help  you if you upload some too.

And one more thought: If you are really limited to 1 GB per month of data, you might want to consider other options of getting data to you. 1 GB is not much once you get into the filesharing business.

hi
i'm on 5 gb per month limit  presently...........

i was just looking at my present connection boxes:

they are currently set to :
bandwidth limits
download            3
upload                80
slot allocation     2

line capacities
download           3
upload               3

i couldnt find any guidelines for setting these boxes in the wiki or faqs....
could you just tell me if these sound okay, considering what i said earlier....

tnx

Well, if you put download to 3 kBps and upload to 80 kBps then you will upload a lot more then you download for sure.

Assuming that you are online for about 12 hours per dayn for 20 days per month these settings will give you approx. 2.6 GB of upload, which is a lot already. But put it lower then 3 and your download will suffer a lot too. The slot allocation is fine, it won't get high anyway. I would suggest to go to the following bandwidth limits:
download   12 kBps
upload        3 kBps

If you are online for less then 10 days with 8 hours a stretch you might want to set it to the following:
download 80 kBps
upload 10 kBps

This will already put 3 GB on your counter. But your downloads might come in faster.
