I've a working Gentoo server which I updated with latest amule 2.1.0 (masked package) that seems to be CVS version (amuleweb titles Amule CVS).
Everything is OK on the server side, and amuleweb works as well, amulecmd too :).
I downloaded the remote-gui 2.1.0 for windows, and tried to connect to my server.
The server (amuled -o) tells me that the external connection is started :D but the gui doesnt give me the infos from my server,
and seems to behave as if it were connected to a local amule server on the windows workstation ?(!?
Is there a conf file I forgot to create ? I've spent many hours trying to find someone with the same problem, but nada :(.
On the server, when running remote gui from the windows workstation, i get:
2006-01-12 19:14:02: New external connection accepted
2006-01-12 19:14:02: Connecting client: amule-remote 0x0001
2006-01-12 19:14:02: Access granted.
An when closing:
2006-01-12 19:18:28: External connection closed.
I wonder if this could be related to the user name (default, grayed, unmodifiable : amule) that I dont use on the server.
I'm a previously eMule user and I really prefer a GUI, so I will appreciate any help.
I've looked at the "amulegui doesn't update through firewall" thread, but didnt find a clue in there.

Do you have such ? What did you specified in "hostname" field of connection dialog ?
-
The setup is like this:
- a pc (pcserver) running gentoo, amuled and amuleweb. All the conf uses default values (4711 for web, 4712 for EC) except the passwords of course. I dont have an 'amule' user on this system. amulecmd works great there. I have not graphical environment on this pc, as its just a server, so no test possible for remote-gui directly on localhost.
- a pc (maurice) running windows xp and amule remote-gui. I have no problems using the web interface with this pc. No amule 'normal' client running here.
I used pcserver as hostname in the connection dialog and 4712 (default) as port.
The gui starts. On pcserver the amuled log, as stated previously, indicates that the connection is granted. The gui retrieve a list of servers and no other information is updated about pcserver, which has about 40 downloads and 5 uploads currently active. I've also tried with the IP of pcserver.
So, from my pov, the gui behaves like if it were connected to a local amule which has no current activity. That's a feeling, not a technical reality.
I would say that the communication between the gui and the server daemon is partial, only the connection is handled, something like that.

Hi, Maurice!
Look at this thread (http://forum.amule.org/thread.php?threadid=8134). I had similar problems. It got better and better with each snapshot and most of the problems disappeared with CVS 20060108.
Maybe you could try with the latest snapshot? A link for Windows binaries (in case you can't compile them yourself) is to be found in the mentioned thread in the last posts.

Thx Radek,
after reading hundreds of msgs, it happens that I dont see anymore.
Actually, my case is so close to the one you reference, that we can consider it the same.
During the last hour, I've done some more testing but with my gentoo workstation (in fact, I use removable boot disk on the same pc) from which I'm replying now, and I get the same behaviour. But, with linux I see some readpacket errors when I quit the gui 8o.
I've just looked at the gentoo portage update and seen a new 2.1.0-r1 posted yesterday, so I give it a try. I've also added your ed2k link for the win version in my amule downloads, just waiting (1 source for the moment) :O.
I hope I'll be able to report an OK!
Despite those little quirks, amule is really a great piece of software.
Thk a lot for your indications, and happy amule !

That's me 8) And it's the ed2k-link for some version from a few days ago (CVS 20060112). The link for the binaries from today is this one (http://ed2k://|file|aMule-Win32-CVS20060114.zip|5331847|D03FDDC319ECEA4CEFD0D80D5D5451BC|/|sources,62.143.40.154:4883|/).
I think it'll be easier (and considerably faster), if you follow the FTP-Link. Ill put today's binaries there as well, when I'm through with compiling. Which will be in a few minutes...

Tx alot. I havent been happy until now, none setup (gentoo or windows) works. I've given your link to my server, and hope to be more lucky.
My freebsd hdd died yesterday so I've some occupation while waiting for the download ;).

Hi, Maurice!
You are a little behind. It's several daily snapshots later now :)
The above mentioned version no longer exists in my ed2k-share. This is the ed2k-Link for today's version (CVS 20060117) (http://ed2k://|file|aMule-Win32-CVS20060117.zip|5331472|00BEAC211D7C50F55D802AA37D5B3538|/|sources,62.143.40.154:4883|/). This version will stay on ed2k for a week.
But, as I mentioned before, you can get the archives faster with anonymous FTP (http://ftp://kieselei.de/aMule-Win32/). I will keep older archives for a while, too.
-
thx a lot, I just got the file by ftp. I've been quite busy reinstalling my freebsd setup and recovering files. I'll try the last version today.
-
All snapshots newer than 20060118 won't compile under Win32 (at my place, at least). So the one from January, 18th (in that case with debug enabled, so quite big!) is the latest available...
-
btw should it not work to
1st compile with debug, and then
2nd stripe the binary in the end?
-
Should help, of course.
But I just thought that in this case (big changes) full debug might come in handy.
I should make a stripped version, too, that's right. Didn't think about the people with low bandwidth 8)
I will do so today.
