Title: How to preview partial downloads in OSX?
Post by: project on March 25, 2006, 09:49:30 PM
I know the incomplete dowloads are stored in a part.met.-file;
But how can i preview them in order to check if they are what i want?
I know i can preview some movie-files with VLC but i got no other application to run for that purpose.
Is there any way to get incomplete downloads isolated in order to preview them?

Thanks a lot for hints or links (allthough i searched already a lot) on this subject!

Take a look at the included readme file, it explains how to set up aMule to preview files with VLC or mplayer. :)

Thnx! i knew that. It works with VLC . with some but not all .avi-files

DVD images cannot be previewed with both of them(mplayer & VLC).

Is there no way to extract the single files regardless of their format?

I'm not exactly sure I understand what you mean by "way to extract the single files".
aMule's temp folder (see the preferences for its location) contains all the incomplete files. The *.part file contains the actual file data for a given download and the *.part.met file contains information about which chunks have already been downloaded of that file, etc.

Once all the data for a given file has been downloaded and verified, the corresponding .part file is simply renamed and moved into your incoming folder. So the .part file is really the (incomplete) final file. So you can simply open a .part file in for instance VLC to preview it (that's exactly what aMule does when you choose the "preview" option). You can also open a .part file in other apps. For instance, if it is a zip file, you might be able to extract parts of the archive that have already been downloaded.
