im using a mac too on OSX 10.5.8 ;D
ok i suggest you reinstall amule totally, not just by removing the download folder or the application icon, it doesnt help.
what you need to do is go to:
yourusename->library->application support->amule
delete the whole amule folder under application support, then reinstall amule by running the dmg and do your stuff.
*just to note, there is absolutely no need to remove the amule download folder from Documents. after reinstallation it will automatically load from there.
not sure if it helps... worked alot of times for me when i keep getting crashes on a bad ed2k link D:

It should be enough to delete or rename the ED2KLinks file in the yourusename->library->application support->amule folder.
This is a bug in aMule related to certain file names in links. A workaround is to open above file in a text editor and change the filename in the link. The filename is enclosed by '|' (pipe) characters, do not change them.
Example:
Rename ed2k://|file|The_Two_Towers-The_Purist_Edit-Trailer.avi|14997504|965c013e991ee246d63d45ea71954c4d|/
to ed2k://|file|different file name.avi|14997504|965c013e991ee246d63d45ea71954c4d|/
