High CPU usage
« on: November 22, 2007, 02:31:13 PM »

Amule is always at 100% cpu usage in the System Monitor results.  Strangely if I keep an eye on the cpu history after 10 minutes of so the CPU drops down to 20-30% for 15 seconds then returns up to 100%. What is wrong?

My version is:

[garvint@localhost ~]$ amule --version
aMule 2.1.3 using wxGTK2 v2.6.3 (Unicoded) (OS: Linux)

I've looked at other posts but with no avail, but the closest someone has suggested is to use "GDB" and to look at the results and see when then the CPU drops to normal and see what is happening with Amule. I'm not sure how to use GDB on my Fedora 8 can anyone help and will this fix it? :-[

I have similar problem (also with Fedora 8), but I read that people on other systems have the same issue as well.

amule 2.1.3 is pretty old, maybe if you download and compile one of the latest SVN tarballs your isue will be fixed. I am currently using amule on solaris x86 and on debian linux, and none uses more than about 10% of the CPU.

Regards.

Thanks for your suggestion, but in the mean time I've got to know that wxWidgets 2.6 seems to be the reason (somehow). The same version worked fine on my Fedora 5, but not in Fedora 8.
But amule 2.1.3 compiled with wxWidgets 2.8 works fine (could be taken from freshrpms.net, see below).

Nevertheless if you thought svn version is quite stable I could give it a chance to see all the new features :)
