Router & sharing - what's my device name and hijacking
« on: October 31, 2008, 11:57:52 AM »

Hi all,

Running last tiger on G4 PB. I have a Thomson router but I've noticed some
strange
behaviour on my router settings when applying local network devices to various
sharing
programs.

My flatmates computers (all PCs) all show up based on their username. Mine used
to show
up as something like 'unknown 00 02 8d 7a 4d'. Initially, I had problems with aMule
set up to my computer being 'hijacked' by other flatmates but
not
deliberately. It wld just switch to their name (even though they didn't
even have
aMule) until I reapplied it to myself. Now I've been away and come
back and see
that my above mentioned username doesn't come up as an option but I do have a
friends
username 'Lucia' which shows up instead (she was around for a few days about a
month
ago with her laptop) - it actually shows up twice . I can connect to ED2K but not Kad
using her device name. My flatmate is using eMule and both servers work for him
I think something needs to be done to rectify my device settings properly.

I have an option to enter the network device name manually - is there a way I
can find and
edit my device name i.e my computer.

Incidentally, when I was at my parent's home my device name showed up as the
original
'unknown 00 02 8d 7a 4d' and aMule worked as it was meant too.

Any thoughts?
