Why does amule use all my bandwidth?
« on: April 18, 2005, 01:45:56 PM »

Hi,
     I am running amule 2.0.0rc8 on Mandrake 10.1 download. My PC has a 1.6GHz intel CPU with 512M RAM and a 10/100 NIC that connects to my ADSL modem.I use an ADSL connection to get on the net. Before I post my problem I will list all settings. My ISP connection speeds are;

1500 Mb/s - Download
256 Mb/s - upload

My aMule connection settings are as follows;

Bandwidth Limits
********************
Download - 19375 kb/s
Upload - 19375 kb/s

Line Capacities
******************
Download - 3 kb/s
Upload - 3 kb/s

Client TCP port = 4662
Client UDP port = 4672

Max sources per file = 300
Connection Limits = 500

I have a fast internet connection and my problem is aMule uses all my bandwidth. When running aMule, most of the time I am getting on average 17 up and about 12 down. As I stated I have a 1500/256 connection, how can 12/17 be using all my bandwidth? When I run aMule I cant load webpages, connect to email or usenet servers and when I ssh to a shell server I get up to 1 minute Lag. Have I misconfigured my settings? I can connect to any listed server and start a download and people can connect to my machine to download. I want to be able to leave aMule running while I use the net for other tasks, not have to shut it down every time I want to read my email or connect to the web.

Thanks for your time,

So please don“t flame me or send me RTFM replies :)

heh :)
most often we are really nice here so dont worry ;)

thing is in amule the line limits and such are in kByte not bit, so you have a way to high setting in your amule config

set the line LIMIT to 10 kB  or max 25 and also the capacity to 32 which is about your overall limit.
download you can set to whatevery you want. or leave it to 0 in line limits and set capacity to 187

this should fix the problem.
