lowID (was highID)
« on: September 18, 2005, 01:08:37 AM »

The situation is pretty clear and  I am afraid that there is no help for me, but I have some doubts.

I managed everything to work ok, amuled, amuleweb, kad, ... and I had highID (for real). One day I connected and it reported lowID. Well that can happen sometimes, right? Right. But the status remained and I started to worrie. I tried aMule from winXP but it was also now on low ID. So the logical conclusion is that something happened with ISP.

I don't have a router (only switch) and I use cable modem without anything built-in except DHCP (but that doesnt really matter). And, most important, I don't have a real IP adress  ;(.

I have tried http://www.amule.org/testport.php and as expected it says that my ports are not available. Also it says that my ports are reachable but that there is nothing listening on them. But, ofcourse, my ports are listening. And it reports for all my ports that they are not reachable.

Well I wanted to give up and face the fact that I have NAT problem, but why did I have highID before ... makes you think about it.

help ?(

Is your amule running on the default ports? Try changing them to something else in the area of 1024 - 65532 as many ISPs block / throttle the default ed2k ports.

And: You can't have a NAT problem if you don't have a NAT device (like a router) ;)

I tried already many ports, but there is no change.

I thought that my ISPs router does some damage, but your post gave me hope dude0001  :).

Any other ideas?

So you have no public IP address? If that's the case there is no way you can get a high ID (and you should never have gotten one, not counting some erronous servers which might tell you you have a high ID even if you don't...)

It's very simple. I get possibility to use, let's say 5 IPs in one range, so I don't have to mask anything to use Internet for that number of PCs. So I simply use switch. Then they use their router for the rest.

I know that some servers send you the wrong data about having HighID, but the thing is that behavior of the connection was diferent. I could get more connections, and if you see now my statistics you will notice that there is lesser download activity, much. And I knew I couldn't get highID, but I didn't mind.

I don't really understand where is the problem with assigning public IP. Isn't there anything how you could bypass the problem  :( ? No, changing ISP or paying more money is not an option  ;).

Ever thought about dhcp+nat?
When you nat the ports to 192.168.1.1 and you get 192.168.1.2 from your dhcp-modem, it can't work.

Now it's back to normal, I get real high ID. How? I don't know. There is no 1:1 NAT, or at least there shouldn't be, but I still get. My modem was turned off for a few days ( I did try restarting it before), so there are 2 options: 1st my luck changed; 2nd something happened cause my modem was off for a few days. I guess I will get low ID again sooner or later, but maybe my expirience can help someone. Thank you all for your help.
