Im just wondering...
« on: January 30, 2004, 12:09:11 PM »

This is sorta my second week of using aMule at all.

With the FastTrack network it is a well known fact that many users have been caught and fined for their activities, and i want to know if i risk the same IF (;)) i will use aMule for illegal activities, if yes then how much (compared to FastTrack) is the chance of getting caught, and if not then how come?

Also, if i release something, what is the chance of me getting tracked down by malicious users (read RIAA etc)?

There's one thing you should know - and care of.
It's illegal to share copyrighted software/music/videos and so on...
Every client that connects to your system knows the ip you're coming from (not mentioning nat-ed networks, where normally the administrator logs what happens inside his network).

Distributing copyrighted material over p2p networks just gives "them" more reasons and more arguments to fight against p2p networks.

Keep that in mind before thinking of "can they get me".

Be aware that if they really want to, they will...

I know all that.
I also never did say that i was sharing/downloading anything illegal.
Who knows, maybe im just a poor artist sharing his works, trying to distribute his own creations - hoping for people to approve.

I'm only talking in theory - What is the chance of a person getting caught in sharing/downloading illegal material by using aMule?

Edit: And dont tell me we all dont know what the real purpose of filesharing is.

What did you expect? A number? Something like "There's a 60% chance to get arrested for sharing copyrighted stuff?"
It _is_ possible to get you if you share something - even without much trouble. It's not much more than  getting your share list, writing down your ip, calling a lawyer to get you in charge.

Of course this is all theoretical speaking...
